For the first time ever, the iconic Al Mirani Fort is now open to visitors!

Located just above the harbor in Old Muscat, this 16th-century fortress has an incredible story: it was built by the Portuguese, reclaimed by Omanis, and now finally open to everyone.

Step inside to explore stone towers, secret passages, and the best views of the Sultan’s Palace you’ll find anywhere. There’s even a café inside the fort, with amazing sea views, especially in the sunset time.

On today's journey we are visiting the ancient City of Qalhât, a vibrant Islamic trading center that flourished from the 11th to the 16th century, connecting the Arabian Peninsula, India, and East Africa. Once bustling port, celebrated by famous travelers Ibn Batuta and Marco Polo as a gem of the Arabian Sea, was an important hub in the medieval era. Despite its glorious past, Qalhat's significance faded in the 16th century, possibly due to changing trade routes and the rise of competing regional centers, eventually remaining in ruins... Oman has five UNESCO heritage sites, and this ancient city is one of them.
