Traditional Sailing Dhow Al Shamaliya is a descendant of Oman's long maritime tradition.

Built in the historic boatyards of Sur, she served as a commercial fishing dhow along the mid-coastal region of Oman for over twenty years. In 2013, Al Shamaliya was renovated, transforming her into a sailing dhow that could be used as a platform for people to learn about traditional sailing techniques, navigation, and Oman’s maritime history. Today, Al Shamaliya is the only authentically-rigged s

ailing dhow in Oman, and, although her appearance gives one the impression that she sailed straight out of the 19th century, she is also equipped with the latest safety, navigational, and communication devices.
