This past Friday & Saturday night, members of our Corporate and Urbandale teams partnered up to be a part of Blank Park Zoo's Dreamnight! Dreamnight is an international event originating in 1996 at the Rotterdam Zoo in the Netherlands. It offers children with special health care needs and their families the opportunity to enjoy a complimentary evening at their local zoo or aquarium. Seeing families and kiddos enjoying themselves brings us so much joy, and we are so proud to be involved in such an awesome community event! ✨

Get to know our May Universal Shining Star, Raymond! 🌟
I've been a client of Universal Pediatrics since just before my first birthday, and now at 14, I feel incredibly blessed to have a devoted group of nurses. They help me with daily activities like getting into my chair, administering G-tube feedings, and showering.
My nurses make my days brighter by reading to me and playing music. Music by Daniel O'Donnell always lifts my spirits, and "Horton Hears a Who" is a favorite book that never fails to make me smile. We have fun dressing up for holidays and special events, often wearing matching outfits. You may notice my Star Quilt behind me in my photo – it was presented to me on my 10th birthday as a milestone. My nurses do a great job incorporating my Native American culture into my care! With the help of my nurses, I continue to grow and thrive in the comfort of my home.

We recently celebrated our latest DAISY Award Honoree, Hollie S., RN!
"Hollie has been our in-home nurse for our son for two years. Initially, I was very hesitant to allow a stranger into our home to care for our son, and I thought no one would/could care for him like me. After two years of having her, I can't imagine our life without her! Hollie routinely shows up to work 5-10 minutes early and is always willing to stay late if we need her to. She goes to middle school with him every day and assists him with all his needs during the day. She knows all his favorite things and has learned how to play the games he enjoys. She will even go outside to play soccer or kickball on a hot summer day. She has amazing communication with us and is quick to contact us if our son is showing any symptoms of illness or distress. Since having her, our son has required fewer hospitalizations and less sickness than before having her care for him. None of us could imagine going back to life without our favorite nurse, Hollie!"

Meet our April Universal Shining Star, Zach! 🌟
Zach has been a client with Universal Pediatrics since February 2015. He is diagnosed with DiGeorge Syndrome, and his nurses provide him with excellent care, ensuring his safety and (Zach’s favorite) even surprising him with goodies! Zach's preferred activities with his nurses include playing Roblox, Kirby, and watching YouTube videos. His favorite color is blue, and he loves his tablet and Pokémon books. Thanks to the dedicated support of his nurses, Zach has made remarkable progress. He now requires fewer G tube feedings, has improved his oral intake, and has successfully returned to school, marking significant milestones in his journey.

The Sheldon and Sioux City offices spent a day volunteering and spreading smiles at Camp High Hopes, located in Sioux City. The mission of Camp High Hopes is to provide a fun, safe, and adaptive recreational experience for children, teens, and adults with disabilities.
From organizing nursing, cleaning, and craft supplies, to assisting in setting up a treatment area, they had a blast making a difference in their community! ☀️

Today we shine a spotlight on our outstanding March Employee of the Month, who has been making a significant impact on our team and our clients, Kayla W., LPN!
One of the standout qualities of Kayla is her unwavering willingness to step up and assist whenever needed. Her reliability is truly making a difference. She has been consistently taking on extra weekend shifts, ensuring that our clients receive the highest level of care and service. Kayla recently joined Universal Pediatrics and has already made herself known as a valuable asset to our team. Whether it's collaborating with colleagues, supporting new hires, or contributing new ideas, she consistently goes above and beyond to foster a positive and collaborative work environment.

Meet our March Universal Shining Star, Cooper!
Since 2019, Cooper has had a Universal Pediatrics nurse by his side. Cooper relies on his nurse for his daily care due to his complex medical needs, including airway clearance, g-tube feedings, and medication administration. Cooper, who is nonverbal and lacks independent mobility, requires constant monitoring for his cardiac history and daily seizures. Despite his challenges, his nurse has become an integral part of their family, showing unwavering love and care for Cooper, advocating for him, and even accompanying them on adventures and a recent Make-A-Wish trip to Florida!
Cooper's favorite colors are blue and orange, and he enjoys reading "Llama, Llama Red Pajama" and "Bob the Bo**er Fairy." With the help of his nurses, Cooper has made significant strides in his communication skills and overall personality, understanding his cues and needs, whether he's happy or distressed.

We are incredibly proud of Cooper and the progress he continues to make! Keep shining bright! 🌟

Today, we honor Florence Nightingale, a pioneer in nursing who revolutionized hospital care in her efforts to make it a safer and cleaner environment. Meet Pehdyn, a true inspiration on Rare Disease Day, and her protector Maverick! Pehdyn was recently diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder Axonal neuropathy. Axonal neuropathy affects both the central and peripheral nervous systems causing muscle atrophy and loss of muscle strength. There are fewer than 100 people in the world diagnosed with Axonal Neuropathy and Pehdyn has a type that only she has been known to be diagnosed with. With the rarity surrounding her diagnosis, she took part in a medical study out of a London University.
Pehdyn graduated high school in 2023 and is in her second semester at Western Iowa Tech Community College where she is studying to become a paralegal. She will participate in an internship in 2025 as part of her studies. Pehdyn loves to attend Camp High Hopes during the summer, where she works as a camp counselor, likes to watch TV with family, hang out with her friends, and listen to music, her favorite musician is Lil’ Skies.
Thank you to Pehdyn and her family for allowing Universal Pediatrics to be part of her incredible journey through different stages of her life and accomplishments. ✨

Meet our February Shining Star… Kaylee! ✨
Kaylee has been with Universal Pediatrics since August of 2022. They are diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency and developmental delays, and their nurses assist with tasks like getting dressed, feeding, and age-appropriate play. Kaylee and her nurse's favorite activities together include reading books, using the trampoline, singing songs, and going for walks, which allows the parents to rest or attend to other tasks. Although unsure of her favorite color, based on the number of pink toys, we think it’s safe to say pink! More favorite toys, songs, and books include Minnie Mouse, "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star," and Dr. Seuss, but Kaylee enjoys reading any book. With the help of her Universal Pediatrics nurse, she has achieved milestones such as meeting eating goals, progressing with potty training and teeth brushing, overcoming bath-time fears, and improving fine motor skills like using their fingers to pick up small toys.
Congrats, Kaylee - We are beaming with pride for all you have accomplished!
