A few months ago we discovered an incredible birding place in southern Cuzco thanks to our friend Mario Ortiz de Zevallos. He took us to the poorly known Marcapata valley, which turn out to be a birding gem, and easy access to the Tambopata lowlands. Forget about the long and expensive boat ride along the Madre de Dios river, the Marcapata valley is going to be the new birding hotspot in southern Peru.

A photo collection of the Koepcke's Hermits we found two weeks ago at reserve. We found two along the Manakin trail, one was perched low above the ground, and the other one was circling around.

We just had an amazing time visiting the archaeological site of Kuelap. It was a cultural excursion day, but we had great views of some birds like Sword-billed Hummingbird, Tufted Tit-tyrant, Line-cheeked Spinetail, and others.
And, of course, the adventure of the cable car ride !!
