Glaciars and lagoons

There is a little known circuit close to cusco that lets you explore several high altitude lagoons while being surrounded by snow capped peaks 🏔️ The trail is approximately 11km long and takes around 5 hours. As a 🍒 on top, there are some very well maintained natural hot springs with a privileged view to relax your muscles after the hike.
Have you heard of Huamantay lagoon? This is so much more complete and pristine without the crowds

We spent a marvelous week in Madre de Dios. Catching up with friends re- exploring our centre and have a friendly conversation with all the bugs.🦗🐛🕷️🐜
The route to Puerto Maldonado is a rollercoaster ride through a variety of climate zones ranging from the amazon headwaters up to 4700m with privileged views of Apu Ausangate ⛰️🦙 We even had some snow!❄️

Ancasmarca, a spectacular pre inca site above Calca. Accessible by an old Inca road or by car it is pleasant to visit with guests that can not hike.
Local people will tell you that on this site many seeds were protected during a big flood and the sacred valleys crops were repopulated from these seeds.

Hands down the best full day hike in the Cusco area. Starting close to Chinchero the old Inca road winds up all the way to 4300m.⛰️ Stone towers indicate the way on the high plain until you reach the imperial trail that connects with Huchuy Qosqo. This trail is built with the same intentions as the classic Inca trail to Machu Picchu.
It is utterly spectacular as it plays with its surroundings. Sudden drops, and incredible changes in scenery chase each other interrupted by gems of Inca architecture until you reach the Huchuy Qosqo site to humble you completely. If you ever come to Cusco, visit Huchuy Qosqo!

Yet another great hike in good company! This time we went from Chinchero to Huchuy Qosqo or the lightning lookout as the local people call it. The complete trail is an ancient inka route connecting these two important sites.
A challenging but beautifully cleansing trek!⛰️🌄

Exploring new routes is exactly that, you never know what you will get. This one i call the Saywa traverse. I have been eying the trail for quite some time.
Turns out it is fairly seldom used and a little overgrown. At some point the trail lost itself in the dense vegetation and i had to start following animal trails to keep making altitude. Eventually i found a ridge that made climbing a little easier until finally reaching the easternmost peak of Apu Saywa. Then it was a short traverse to get to the arqueological site and the descent on the regular route. No doubt, a challenging day and a route not apt for hiking with guests but another one crossed of the list and some impprtant lessons learned. That is what exploring is all about!
