The next tribe of Papua is the Enguwal Tribe from the Tambul Nebilyer district of Papua New Guinea. I saw them at the Hagen festival and was impressed by their ceremonial attire, known as bilas, which reflects a profound connection to nature and their ancestral heritage. I also nicknamed them the Blue bearded tribe as so many had a blue beard painted.

The Kuru Ware Story, a legendary tale passed down through generations, reveals how the tribe’s traditional dance and attire were inspired by a dream involving a tree kangaroo. It’s amazing to see how these traditions continue to play a vital role in their lives, from celebrations to ceremonies. They have an amazing waterfall to see around their village.

The Enguwal Tribe’s journey also shows a remarkable blend of ancient customs with modern influences, as they embrace Christianity while preserving their unique cultural practices.

Hidden in the highlands of PNG, the Kalam tribe of Simbai showcases a rich cultural heritage. Known for their stunning headdresses made from thousands of emerald green beetle heads and adorned with bird of paradise feathers, these intricate adornments are a sight to behold. Traditional rituals like the "sutim nus" nose-piercing ceremony mark the transition to manhood for boys aged 10-17. Accessible only by small plane or a challenging hike, Simbai's remote location has preserved its authentic way of life. We saw this guy at the Goroka festival in 2023.
