Māori Language Week is here... do you know the Māori name for the Coromandel Peninsula? It is Te Tara-o-te-Ika a Māui (The jagged barb of Māui’s fish). When Maui hauled the huge fish from the ocean it looked like a Stingray. Auckland to Northland is the Tail, Coromandel Peninsula the Barb, East Cape and Taranaki the Wings and the Wellington Region is the Head.
