We sincerely appreciate the Kokoda Track Foundation (KTF) for selecting SalaMata Paradise Haus as the accommodation for their team and for utilizing our facilities for their training sessions.

Recently, KTF initiated a significant project in Salamaua, distributing solar panels and lights equipped with charging panels for phones. A four-day workshop was conducted, involving 10 community members who have since been trained and employed by KTF. Their task is to install solar lighting systems on all houses along the Salamaua coastline. We commend KTF for extending their services to Morobe Province for the first time, benefiting our community immensely.

How We Started Building

In the initial stage, material procurement posed a significant challenge. Despite limited resources, we put together a team that demonstrated resourcefulness, leveraging local suppliers and alternative materials to stretch every kina. This phase laid the foundation for the project, showcasing the ingenuity and creativity necessary for success.
However, it was the dedication and creativity of our team that truly set Salamata apart. Each member, driven by a shared vision and fueled by passion, worked tirelessly day in and day out. Their unwavering commitment to the project, even in the face of adversity, exemplified the spirit of determination that fueled Salamata's construction.
At the helm of this endeavor stood a strong and passionate leader. A team leaders ability to inspire, motivate, and guide the team through the challenges of construction was pivotal. leadership provided the direction needed to navigate obstacles and maintain momentum towards the ultimate goal.
Through disciplined savings and meticulous budgeting, every kina was maximized to its fullest potential. This financial prudence ensured that resources were allocated efficiently, allowing for steady progress despite financial constraints.
Over the course of 12 months, amidst the backdrop of rugged coastal landscapes and sweeping ocean views, Salamata Guest Haus and Eco Lodge rose from the ground. It stands not only as a physical structure but as a symbol of grit, determination, and the unwavering belief in the power of dreams.
The legacy of Salamata is not just in its bricks and mortar but in the story of ordinary individuals coming together to achieve something extraordinary. It serves as inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs, showcasing that with passion, perseverance, and prudent management, any dream can be realized.

Connect Local PNG Tour Guide - Dominic Tulo Lae City Tourism Bureau

Don’t touch starfish....❌❌❌
This is a request to all tourists, don’t tuch starfish. REQUEST TO ALL GUIDE Please make your clients aware of this.
What happens when we lift a starfish out of water for an impromptu photo session?
All over the body of starfish are papules called dermal gills. Carbon dioxide gases are exchanged for oxygen between the coelomic liquid of the starfish and the water. Essentially, it’s how they breathe, like having hundreds of tiny noses all over your body.
As fresh air is toxic to starfish and they can’t hold their breath for very long, each time they’re lifted out of the water for a photo op, they are drowning and suffering from a build up of carbon dioxide. It’s the equivalent of someone filling your lungs with water for a little while and then emptying them again. It’s not a good day out. When this is done repeatedly, it’s a flip of the coin as to whether the poor creature can die from drowning or the stress of being semi-drowned so many times.
Wildlife are not our playthings. Just because a creature is slow enough to be caught by human hands, that doesn’t give us the right to do so, and the social media attention gained certainly does not justify the harm caused to the critter.
This is an act we’re all guilty of at some point. What was happening to that animal in the moment didn’t cross our minds. But now we know better, so we must do better.

☆☆ 16 Of 9 PNG INDEPENDENCE CAMPAIGN

Our 16 Of 9 Branded Campaign at SalaMata Paradise Haus was a success.

Due to the dull, cold and rainy weather in Lae on the 16th/Sept, the campaign was postponed to the following day - Sunday. Our clients were all excited for the day trip. After 9am we left VocoPoint, and headed out to Salamaua. The weather was perfect for a day out at sea, with the sun on our faces and the wind in our hair. Leaving behind all the stresses of city life.

The Day Trip started off with a tour of the bay; from Busamang, pasted Buakap, Asini and on to Salamaua Point before heading to SalaMata Paradise Haus.

On arrival we were greeted by a cultural singsing group from Asini. Then followed by a canoe race involving the surrounding communites, with the best views from the Bungalow's verandah. Then there was a hike up the mountain trail for those who had that extra energy to burn. Although it is a steep climb to the top, you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the Huon Gulf. The clients then had a taste of Salamaua from the lunch menu, before heading off to the beach for a canoe ride and swim over to the house reef. By 1:30pm, it was time to pack up and head back to the city.

To sum up the 16 Of 9 Independence Campaign DayTrip, it was a jam packed fun day out on the Huon coast. Thank you to all our clients who made the Trip. For those who missed out, we have Day Trips for Group Travel open every weekend.
