If you're looking for something too do this long weekend, perhaps consider taking the family up to Sogeri for a drive.

Pack a picnic eskie, find a shade or a riverside local tourist picnic area and just chill whilst mum can browse the SOGERI FLORICULTURE SHOW and pick up some goodies 🪴🌿🌻🌱🍁.

This year they have a visiting group of mothers from Goroka so check them out.... you will definitely find something new.

This is but a peek into life on the Sirinumu Dam lake. .where boats and canoes are the only mode of transport from village to village. Come up for a drive and see the sights and sounds of Sogeri, only 45min outside of Port Moresby.

Day trips can be planned to include short walks/hikes, a swim, a boat ride or even an overnight camp at one of the villages.

This is the mode of transportation for the families living on the Sirinumu Dam everyday.

Did you know that they also have a little fish farm on the dam?

A simple enough idea, starts with trial and error. That's the only way we learn.

Coming out of COVID lockdown, we decided to slowly kick start some activities to attract the tourism kina into Sogeri and it seems Daily Treks & Hikes is something many people are willing to do

Apparently there are many people out there who are looking for places to visit on the weekends and this initiative by Sogeri Hikers & Adventures includes visits to some of our sites such as IAROCRY RAPIDS TOURISM PARK and Isakurukuru caves.

These visits puts money directly into the hands of the product owners and we encourage more people in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea to come out and explore your backyard and .

In line with the Central Provincial Plan, where the drive for economic empowerement will be driven by Agriculture, Tourism & Sports, this year 2021 in July, the Innaugural Central Provincial Agro Tourism Show will be staged in the Rigo Districts, Kwikila Secondary School Sports Field.

The 3 day event is planned to showcase both current and potential agriculture & tourism products spanning the lenght and breadth of our beautiful province as well as promoting SMEs in the rural area.

Economic Sectors of the Provincial Administration will be setting up Information Booths to conduct promotion & awareness of their projects and functions and visitors as well as locals will have the opportunity to see what our 4 Districts have to offer.

Corporate Companies from Port Moresby as well as a few statutory authorities such as IRC, IPA & SMEC will also have exhibition booths and we expect a good crowd of over 3000 people to pass through the gates between the 16th - 18th July.

Mc Donald's Corner . . historical site you pass on the way to Owers Corner, the start of the Kokoda Trail in Sogeri, the Central Province end.

Come up on the weekend for a drive and visit us.

The plaque reads;
These monument commemorates the exploits of the 59th Infantry Battalion who were first to engage the Japanese along the Kokoda Trail in 1942.
To honor the 138 members who gave their lives in New Guinea and in remembrance of P.J McDonald their true and loyal friend.

The whole Sogeri scenic drive is so lush and green after the past 4weeks of rain. There are waterfalls everywhere scattered along the whole drive from 17mile up into the plateau itself.

In this photo, you will see a cascading waterfall that only comes through after days of heavy downpour. It was a sight to behold.

Take an easy drive up for a picnic with the family.

Our new wall photo including the one below, are images captured by O2 Visuals PNG of the Sirinumu Dam.

It gives you an idea of how massive the body of water is.

There are villages scattered around the side of the dam including a Primary School. Dinghy's are used to get from the villages to the mainland Sirinumu Dam slipway, where locals get on PMV's into town.

We promote scenic boat rides around here and there are hidden gems only the local's know tucked into many of these small water ways.

One can stop over on an island for a swim and fresh organic lunch provided by the friendly smiling locals.

Anyone worried about transport to attend the show - head to the Sogeri Pineapple Festival page for more info.

They have organised with local Route 501 buses to be on standby for show goers on the weekend.

Bus Fares are listed on the Poter including Location.

Public Transport is being organised for those who dont have private transport options.

A central departure location has been designated and prices are the standard bus fares currently paid by the local travelling public on route 501 to/from Sogeri.

You cannot, not, hear the crashing sounds of the waterfall at Rouna 2 or the rush of the Laloki river gushing down the hillside and between the rocks after a heavy downpour up in the mountains of Koiari.

The drive up to Sogeri this afternoon was a relaxing one, taking in the sights, sounds and cool mountain air.

We hope PNG Power can install more lookout points along the way with safer parking so many more can enjoy this view.
