Approximately 75% of the land here is not suitable for cropping.

40% is not arable due to soil composition on grassland and approximately 35% is not suitable for commercial cropping as it is old growth rainforest situated on limestone.

To improve the cropping viability of the grassland the owners are working with PNG Forestry who have planted approximately 3,000 timber trees there (Teak and Kamelele). As they mature and drop their leaves a compost under the trees will form and over time will improve the soil composition for cropping. This process i think is regarded as permaculture and has already been initiated by Bada John with the mango plantation. The added benefit is that this whole process improves the carbon storage capability.

The old growth rainforest has been carefully preserved and it too will be a source of carbon credits. In some parts of the rainforest gardens have been established for ongoing healthy and organic food security.

I recently experienced the warm hospitality of our Kwame family at Kwame. Thelmas and Wilma's scones, buns, and donuts are as good as ever. The fruits and vegetables provided were as good as ever. A wind house overlooking the bay beside the Lodge has been added which is a cool resting place during the day. A water heater has been added. The Lodge gardens are better than ever thanks to Nase and Sandra.

Thank you to everyone at Kwame.

Have posted some photos taken with my old Samsung phone. Many were taken out on the adjacent reef on my locally made dugout canoe with outrigger. Thanks Peter.

Wilma is a keen and proficient fisherwoman. I think this is one of her best catches, caught just off Kwame shores on Tuesday in her canoe. A time of celebration.
