Endangered Species collections//

Lagaip Poverty Relievers Association is collecting endangered species especially cuscus (kepa) and marsupials like (komaip) for it's biodiversity conservation and ecotourism initiative. We are buying the latter with K50 and former with K100-K200 depending on sizes. We are located at Wanepap. If you plan to celebrate your new year with little amount ranging from K50 to K200 per species, try your hunting plans starting today and let me know via mobile phone: 79376834. We strongly discourage mass hunting but capture live animals without disturbing the ecosystem.
Thank you

The foreigners were led to our farm sites and were amazed with the natural environment and rich soil. They commented, God blessed our land but why we are poor? Poor because we don't work hard to reap results but expect free handouts from those who work hard.

Not everyone knows how to improve productivity.
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""''"""'''""""""""""""""""
Potato farming is labour intensive which is the reason many people are not doing it. However, there are improved methods to reduce labour intensiveness and other costs bearing farm practices. This will be covered in our training program. In partnership with Fresh Produce Development Agency and Lagaip Poverty Relievers Association, we aim at training farmers to equip with innovative farming practices and financial literacy training in the district. Our job now is to identify existing and interested farmers and train them with relevant skills they require to be successful entrepreneurs in agribusiness .

Lagaip Potato Seeds Scheme Project to supply quality seeds.
"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
Lagaip Potato Seeds Scheme project located in the Pilikambi is set to supply quality seed potato to the highlands of PNG. We have developed one hectare farm and another 2 hectares under preparation. Our aim is to produce 10, 000 mesh bags of quality seeds per year to aspiring farmers right around PNG. Potato screen house is to be set up on farm and mini tubers are raised within the screen house system to produce G1 seeds which are planted within the farm to produce G2 seeds that will be distributed to farmers. The strict quarantine measures are taken on farm site to control diseases. We are certified potato seeds grower under Fresh Produce Development Agency (FPDA) hence, our seeds are recommended to farmers in PNG. We work in collaboration with DAL Enga and FPDA to develop potato seeds production after potato late blight disease has contaminated most of the seed producing areas like Tambul in WHP. Potato Seeds Scheme Project is one component of "Lagaip Rural Economic Development Projects" along with others such as bulb onion, inland fish farming, culture and tourism promotion and farmers skills training to foster economic growth. Our goal is to change Laiagam district into agriculture and tourism hub and a model district in the country. On this note, major West Enga agriculture and culture show will be staged (05-06 August) to mark a new chapter for the people of Laiagam to connect with the outside world. These are only few of many beautiful activity plans that I will continue to publish in this medium and the national newspaper for interested stakeholders...

Empowering women in Pilikambi
"""""""""""""""''''''''''''""""""'''"'''"'''"''''''''""""'""''""""'"'""
Women must be included in every facet of development and decision making processes. They form the core of family units and mind profoundly of household matters. In PNG, even in the parliament its 100% male subjugation hence women's problems and views are misrepresented. This gives rise to cross-cutting issues which trigger radical effects in communities. Further still, women are suppressed, oppressed and intimidated in public arena and in domestic matters. In response to the problem, we do projects under the groups "Lagaip Poverty Relievers Association (LPRA), Pilikambi High Price Cultural Group and Lagaip Sangai Festival, intent to revert the trend anticlockwise so that women play dominant roles in the areas of agriculture, culture and tourism, pastry makings, textiles and garments among others.
Pictures below was taken last year (2019) during visit to some registered members of LPRA and their bulb onion projects at Niugu, Laiagam by officers of Porgera Chamber of Commerce and Industry and DAL-Enga. The cultural performance is Pilikambi High Price Cultural Group during the launching of Lagaip Rural Economic Development Projects last week.

Onions showing promise

January 2, 2020 The Enga NiuslMain Stories

A FARMING group in Laiagam-Porgera district, Enga, is going into commercial bulb onion farming.
Farmers under the Lagaip Poverty Relievers Association (LPRA) have ventured into bulb onion business to sustain their livelihoods after trials in the area showed promising results.
This was revealed by LPRA programme coordinator Tony Sulupin during their third harvest at Niugu village in Laiagam last week.
Sulupin said the crop performed exceptionally well.
“We produce high quality bulb onions which can meet any market expectation and fetch good prices,” he said.
Sulupin, who completed a short course certificate in agrobusiness in Australia through the Australia Awards Scholarships early last year said his aim was to transform Laiagam into a district with a strong agricultural base.
“I am determined and committed, nothing is impossible under the sun.”
Sulupin said he would help farmers grow quality onions.
LPRA chairman Danis Salapan, who coordinated the harvest, said he was pleased to see what crop farmers had got from their hardwork.
Salapan said the onion would undergo a drying process before packing and selling for K100 per bag.
He said the onions would also be sold K2-K3 each at Porgera and Wabag markets. The money made from the onions would help the farmers pay for their children’s school fees.
