As discussions continued over controls on international trade of Sharks and rays at the convention on international trade in endangered species of wild fauna and flora (cites) conference of the parties, March 2013 in Bangkok , Thailand, PADI members,divers and supporter's around the globe urged cites leaders to" Vote Yes" to protect threatened Sharks and rays.

The 1st.BMDA shall protect the rights of subsistence Divers, especially of local communities, to the preferential use of the communal marine and coastal resources, both inland and offshore. It shall provide support to such Divers through appropriate technology and research adequate financial, production, and marketing assistance, and other services.
