Over 56K Tourists Flock to Boracay During Holy Week
Despite the scorching heat, more than 56,000 tourists chose to spend their Holy Week on the island of Boracay this year.
According to Felix Delos Santos, Chief Tourism Operations Officer of Malay-Boracay Tourism Office, the figures were recorded from Palm Sunday until Easter Sunday, encompassing the entire Holy Week period.
The highest number of tourists was observed on Maundy Thursday, with a staggering 13,898 visitors. Additionally, Holy Wednesday and Good Friday saw approximately 7,698 and 7,261 tourists respectively. However, the numbers slightly dipped to 6,412 on Black Saturday.
It is worth noting that around 70% of the total number of tourists were domestic visitors such as Rowena Agustin of Numancia, highlighting the popularity of Boracay as a preferred destination among local travelers.
"I chose to spend my Holy week in Boracay because the ambiance can refresh my mind. I feel free in embracing the beauty of white sand there, together with my family and relatives," the mother of two enthused.
Rowena added that visiting Boracay is a practical option for families like hers who want to have a beach vacation for relatively lower budget.
"My experience in Boracay was so great because it is near, it is world class, and we spent three days there with minimal expenses. And of course, we enjoyed the view and the seas so much," she added.
For a devout entrepreneur like Joanne Amacio, her Holy Week vacation in Boracay is 'truly a special experience'
"Spending time in Boracay during Holy Week has offered me a unique blend of spiritual reflection and beautiful scenery. The island's stunning beaches and serene atmosphere provide a perfect setting for creating memorable moments with my Aunt and my only daughter, " Joanne said.
She added that her Boracay vacation had strengthened her bonds with family members and created lasting memories with them.
"It's amazing how new environments and experiences can reveal different aspects of our personalities and deepen our connections with each other."
The numbers mentioned above contribute to the overall tourism records of Boracay, which have been consistently impressive. In the first quarter of 2024 alone, the island welcomed nearly 500,000 tourist arrivals, showcasing its enduring appeal as a top tourist spot.
The influx of tourists during Holy Week not only brings economic benefits to the island but also underscores the enduring allure of Boracay as a sought-after destination for both local and international travelers.
