Kamakailan nga lamang po in collaboration with the Cagayan Tourism Office and the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region II, our LGU welcomed international visitors from the Australian cruise ship Coral Geographer. We are very proud, dahil ang bayan ng Claveria po ang kanilang gateway to the Philippines! ✨

Sa kanilang sandaling pagbisita, naranasan nila ang mga lokal na tradisyon sa ating bayan tulad ng rice harvesting at lubi-lubi making, at nagkaroon din sila ng pagkakataong makilala ang Agta Village—isang tunay na yaman ng ating kultura.

The coastal town of Claveria today welcomed the arrival of the Australian cruise ship Coral Geographer, which brought 43 international passengers eager to experience the cultural and natural charms of the Cagayan region. Local officials, led by Mayor Lucille Angelus Yapo, personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard, joined the Department of Tourism Region 2 (DOT-R2) headed by Regional Director Troy Alexander Miano, in a warm reception ceremony for the foreign guests.

The passengers enjoyed a variety of immersive cultural activities, including rice harvesting and lubi-lubi making, showcasing the unique agricultural heritage of the area. Their itinerary also included a visit to the Agta Village, where they gained insights into the traditional ways of life of the indigenous Agta community, and an exploration of the Santa Maria Eco Park, highlighting the region’s ecological treasures.

The cruise visit was made possible through the efforts of Travel People and Wallem Philippines, who coordinated to bring the Coral Geographer to the region, enhancing Cagayan Valley’s visibility in the international cruise tourism industry. The DOT Region 2 also prepared tokens for each visitor, offering them a tangible memory of their enriching experience in Cagayan.

“The arrival of Coral Geographer is a testament to the growing appeal of Cagayan Valley for cruise tourism, as well as to the warm hospitality and rich cultural heritage we have to offer,” said RD Troy Alexander Miano. “We are proud to be a gateway for these international visitors, and today’s activities demonstrated the unique experiences that make our region a premier destination.”

The visit of Coral Geographer further emphasizes the expanding horizon of cruise tourism in Cagayan Valley, with the town of Claveria now firmly positioned as a compelling stop on the cruise tourism map. Through continued efforts by DOT Region 2, more international cruise ships are expected to bring in travelers eager to explore the treasures of Northern Luzon. #

The Department of Tourism (DOT) celebrates the Philippines’ recognition as a leading destination for long-staying guests, securing third spot in a recent study by Ubuy, a global e-commerce platform.

The study, which reviewed over hundred countries, identified the Philippines as a prime spot for extended stays due to its affordability, cultural richness, safety, and travel convenience.

The Philippines achieved a score of 55.74, with a 20-day vacation costing approximately $943—the second most affordable option. The country’s 5-month tourist season and moderate crime index further reinforced its status as “a safe and appealing destination for long vacations.”

The DOT encourages travelers to extend their stays and spend more for a complete Philippines’ experience of its unique cultural and natural wonders, while also supporting the local economy.

Ubuy’s research evaluated factors such as affordability, safety, cultural attractions, and accessibility.
