HOMAGE TO THE NORTH

From the months of November until March, Amihan – the northeasterly trade winds from the Pacific – brew up storms and low-pressure areas that bring about cool, strong breezes to our eastern coastlines. This coincides with the dry season, and brings water sports enthusiasts to our local archipelago. The consistent wind opens itself up for various carbon-free activities such as surfing, wind-surfing, kite-surfing, and sailing. Given that most of the tourism centered around island-hopping starting from town proper is on the west coast, many tend to miss out on the adventure of the more northern and eastern coastline, as well as the more rugged El Nido experience. These off-the-beaten-path destinations take you to surfable waves at Duli Beach, the caves of Dewil a.k.a New Ibajay, and the windy shorelines of San Fernando and Sibaltan.

Bancarera, or boat race (wooden boat), is a traditional sport here in the Philippines, held during fiesta in each town, city, and province located near the sea.

We invite everyone to watch one of the highlights of El Nido's 107th Founding Anniversary, the motorboat race locally known as "Bancarera," which will take place in El Nido Town Beach from tomorrow, March 14, until March 15.

To all island hoppers on the said date, please be advised that all dispatch activities for the said date shall be moved to Corong-Corong(Takasan), in front of La Plage Area, and in front of Telesfora.
