Philippine military plane crashes, 31 dead, 50 rescued

MANILA, Philippines — A Philippine air force C-130 aircraft carrying combat troops crashed in a southern province while landing Sunday, killing at least 29 army soldiers on board and two civilians on the ground, while at least 50 were rescued from the burning wreckage, officials said.

Some soldiers were seen jumping off the aircraft before it crashed and exploded around noon in the periphery of the Jolo airport in Sulu province, military officials said. Two of six villagers who were hit on the ground have died.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said rescue and recovery efforts were ongoing. The aircraft had 96 people on board, including three pilots and five crew and the rest were army personnel, the military said, adding 17 soldiers remained unaccounted for by nightfall. The pilots survived but were seriously injured, officials said.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Navy (PN) stated on Monday that after the country's first submarines are built, agreements on rescue and assistance would be negotiated with the country's key allies.

"Agreements will be arranged with nations that have submarine rescue capabilities as soon as the Philippine submarines are created," said PN head Vice Adm. Giovanni Carlo Bacordo in a statement to the Philippine News Agency.

These arrangements are not new, according to Bacordo, because most submarine-operating countries lack a "distinct and autonomous rescue capacity" and rely on their strategic allies for aid in times of need.

"The submarine community,' which is made up of several nations, has a strong link, mutual respect, and a shared understanding to assist one another in times of trouble," he added.

While a submarine rescue capability is desirable, Bacordo claims that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) lacks the financial means to acquire one.

He went on to say that "submarine rescue capability is not yet included in the PN's submarine warfare capabilities development."

Having diesel-electric submarines in the AFP's arsenal, according to Bacordo, will help the AFP to attain a credible defense posture while also improving the PN's maritime defense capabilities.

"We have the right mix of submarines, frigates, corvettes, OPVs (offshore patrol vessels), LDs (landing docks), FAIC-Ms (fast attack interdiction craft-missiles), PACs (multi-purpose attack craft), AAVs (amphibious assault vehicles), and other vessels." This is reflected in our Naval Operating Concept, which will be submitted to HHQ (higher headquarters) in 2020," he said.

The PN intends to buy six anti-air frigates, 12 anti-submarine corvettes, and three submarines, as well as other naval assets, under this strategy.

"This is the force combination that will allow the AFP to mount a meaningful defense," Bacordo explained.

He also stated that the Navy will be better equipped to execute its core duty of territory defense, security, and stability as a result of the acquisition and development of submarine warfare capacity.
"Submarines will improve our maritime defense capacity by providing anti-access/area denial, maritime surveillance, maritime interdiction, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities. In the Navy's arsenal, the submarine is the most effective ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) platform and the greatest killing machine "Added he.

He claims that having a submarine capability will give a deterrent against aggressors, credibility for the PN, worldwide recognition for the Philippines, and acknowledgment of the AFP by foreign military forces.
"Submarines are undetected and might be patrolling the WPS (West Philippine Sea) at any time, ready to strike if required. For the PN, having a functioning submarine at sea will be a game-changer. Contenders will have to contemplate the possibility of being attacked by a submarine at any moment, anyplace, and without warning, which will alter their whole appraisal of the tactical situation as well as their actions "He went on to say,

These submarines will be armed to the teeth with a variety of weaponry.

"It can infiltrate an enemy task force to hunt down aircraft carriers and landing docks, and with a single devastating shot, it may offer decisive dominance," he continued.

GES General Santos International Airport | Newly Renovated | DOTR | CAAP

THE MODERN GENSAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IS ALMOST HERE
The General Santos International Airport (GSIA) of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) will soon become a key gateway in the island of MINDANAO, which can serve the greater area of SOCCSKSARGEN and nearby regions.
As of 20 April 2021, the expansion and rehabilitation of the existing Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) of GSIA are now 96.51% complete.
The construction of the new powerhouse building was completed on 18 March 2021. The rehabilitation of the control tower, and construction works of the administrative building, are likewise 100% complete.
Other improvement works for the airport are still ongoing, including the upgrading of the power plant system, rehabilitation of Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) 35 & 17, procurement of Navigational Aids, and construction works of the perimeter road and security fence.
Handled by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), under the able leadership of Director General Capt. Jim Sydiongco, the GSIA development project is poised to transform this hub to become the largest airport in Mindanao, capable of handling bigger, wide-bodied aircraft such as the Boeing 747 and 777, and other others including the Airbus A330, A340, and A350.
The General Santos International Airport is envisioned to greatly benefit the people of Mindanao for years ahead, with vast opportunities for economic growth, as well as securing and assuring the continuous transport of essentials such as food supply.
And in a post-pandemic environment, Tourism is expected to play a crucial factor in the socio-economic progress of the region, with more jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities becoming available.
In fact, more or less 500 construction workers were hired during the construction phase of the GSIA. Once GSIA becomes fully operational, the demand of up to 1,200 job opportunities will be made available to residents of the region.
This huge airport development project will surely pave the way to further spur economic growth and progress in General Santos City and the entire Mindanao.
SULONG GENSAN!

By now you’ve heard it. The smash of 2017, “Despacito” has topped the charts in nearly 50 countries, including an unprecedented run on the U.S. Top 40 for a Spanish-language song. It is now the most viewed and liked video on YouTube of all time, the fastest to rack up 2 billion views and the first to reach 3 billion — and in barely six months, a benchmark that took two years for Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s “See You Again.” By YouTube’s count, the people of the world have collectively watched “Despacito” for 20,000 hours. No doubt, we’ve sung and danced along for far longer than that.

Unlike the “Macarena,” the song is not a silly novelty. It’s a hit on its own terms, a sexy Spanish sing-along with no special hook aside from its catchy refrains and insistent beat, and it was well on its way before Justin Bieber pulled a Pitbull and jumped on the bandwagon (and gave it a push). A phenomenon like “Despacito” invites speculation and demands analysis. As someone who has studied the history of reggaeton and Caribbean music in the United States, especially in the age of the internet, I have been as fascinated by “Despacito” as anyone. Why this song? Why now?

While I don’t believe in any single magic explanation for the remarkable resonance of “Despacito,” there are a few crucial factors that are worth our attention if we’re curious about this momentous occasion in American and global popular music.

The first is relatively straightforward but not to be neglected: simply put, it’s a good pop song, combining decades of songwriting experience, a weaponized chord progression, inspired performances by seasoned professionals, and access to an international music industry. The second factor helps to explain why “Despacito” was able to break out of the Latin pop realm and into the Anglophone and the global: Audiences had been primed to receive a pop-reggaeton song in the midst of an ongoing and unabated vogue for “tropical” sounds. While either of these two factors could have applied to previous historical moments in pop, the third is the one that most clearly locates “Despacito” in the early 21st century: in short, YouTube.

Taken together, these factors reveal “Despacito” to be a complex, profoundly collective phenomenon that points as much to the past — whether Tin Pan Alley, San Juan, or Kingston — as it does to the future, to a world remaking global pop in its own image.

The Untold Story of the Kingdom of the Maharlikans, now called The Philippines

In the early 1930’s, Europe was in a depression and Germany was financially bankrupt. An unknown party leader promised the German people that he could create jobs and boost its economy. The Germans dared him and put him in power. His name is Adolph Hi**er. In June 1933, the Vatican and Hi**er, a Roman Catholic signed a concordat for mutual protection and enhancement. Shortly after that, Hi**er was loaded with money. He built a massive army and manufactured weapons for war. Then Hi**er took Poland. Before 1918, there was no Poland. That land was part of Germany and used as a buffer zone to separate Germany from Russia. But when Hi**er reclaimed it, England declared war on Germany.

Throughout the Spanish occupation of the Maharlika, members of the Tagean / Tallano clan have been visiting Europe since some of their relatives were English and Austrian. From 1866 to 1898, Prince Julian Macleod Tallano had also been frequenting the Vatican. In 1934, under Pope Pius XII, the Vatican negotiated with a member of the Filipino Royal Family, the Christian Tallano clan in Maharlika. An agreement was reached that 640,000 metric tons of the Tallano gold would be lent to the Pope. This was part of that gold accumulated by the Southeast Asian Srivijayan/Madjapahit Empire during its glorious reign of 900 years. In 1939, two members of the Tallano family and a Roman Catholic priest, Fr. Jose Antonio Diaz, brought the gold from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, to the Vatican. After doing this, Fr. Diaz went back to the Maharlika and resided in Cabanatuan City. After World War II, he facilitated the safe return of the 640,000 metric tons of gold from the Vatican to the Maharlika. Manuel Acuna Roxas ( a relative of the Acuna / Tagean / Tallano clan), then a congressman and Bishop Enrique Sobrepena, Sr. In the presence of Atty. Lorenzo Tanada, received the gold in Manila. A lease agreement was made between the Tallano clan and the Maharlika government. A total of 617,500 metric tons of gold was deposited in the newly installed Central Bank of the Maharlika to comply with its requirement for GOLD RESERVE. Under the terms of the contract, the Central Bank became the HOLDER of that gold. That lease agreement will expire in the year 2005.

Having gained the trust and confidence of Fr. Diaz, the Tallano clan made him the main negotiator and trustee of their gold. Fr. Diaz, in turn, hired the services of Atty. Ferdinand E. Marcos, then a highly recommended brilliant young lawyer having attained notoriety when he successfully defended himself in the “Nalundasan Case” in 1939. The Tallano clan paid commission to Fr. Diaz and Atty. Marcos in gold, 30% from the principal of 640,000 metric tons. In 1949, the two richest men in the world were Fr. Jose Antonio Diaz and Atty. Ferdinand E. Marcos. Between the two of them they legitimately earned and owned192,000 metric tons of gold. Ferdinand Marcos withdrew their share of the gold from the Central Bank and minted it “RP – CB.” Sometime later, Fr. Diaz and Marcos brought their gold to Switzerland, in the Swiss Bank Corporation in Zurich. The remaining 400,000 metric tons of Tallano gold is in the third floor basement of the Central Bank Minting Plant in East Ave., Quezon City. There are 950,000 metric tons of gold (declared missing in the International Court of Justice) picked up by Yamash*ta from its European ally, Hi**er. Another 250,000 tons of the Japanese loot around Southeast Asia are both now in the Maharlika. This country then became the holder of 1.6 million metric tons of gold bars. Some of the Yamash*ta gold buried in the Maharlika has been found. But the bulk of it is still buried to this day. And even now, thousands are secretly digging for it, including Japanese treasure hunters.

The World Street journal in its November 15, 1985 issue wrote that two thirds of all gold in the world is in the Maharlika. One third is divided among the rest of the countries in the world. Very few Filipinos know this.

When Marcos took over the government in 1965, the Maharlika had a foreign debt of US$ 13.5 billion. In 1986, when the Americans forcibly brought Marcos to Hawaii, President Aquino inherited a foreign debt of US $ 24 billion. But, of these, US$ 7 billion was incurred by the private sector. At his ouster, Marcos left US$ 2.5 billion in the Central Bank reserve. This means that Pres. Marcos during his 20 years of absolute rule only incurred a measly US $ 1 billion foreign debt to build up this nation with its fast growing population and numerous infrastructure projects. How did President Marcos manage this government financially? Aside from the annual national budget of P 35 billion financed by the national treasury, he had all this gold at his disposal for building the infrastructure projects that today stand unequalled to all four succeeding presidents. Today, this country has a foreign debt of around US $ 75 billion. From 1986 to 2000, the government under three presidents incurred a debt of US $ 51 billion on top of its original US $ 24 billion – in just 14 years !

In the 1997 Philippine Yearbook (National Statistics Office) a Summary of Government Expenditures from 1966 to 1997 was made. From 1965 – 1986 (20 years) President Marcos spent P 486 273 Billion from 1986- 1991 ( 6 years) President Aquino spent P 1 077 895 Trillion. From 1992 – 1997 (6 years ) President Ramos spent P 2 237 907 Trillion.

Between May 14 to June 5, 2003, a nationwide survey report conducted and administered by Asia Pacific Periscope put out this question: “Among our Presidents, who do you think had done most for the country?” The results were : Marcos 41%, Magsaysay 15%, Aquino 6%, Ramos 6%, Estrada 4%, Arroyo 2%, Quezon 0.3%, Quirino 0.3% and 22% could not give any name. Margin of error was +/- 2.7%

When Fr. Jose Antonio Diaz, alias Severino Sta. Romana, died in 1974 all that 30% commission in gold became legendary “MARCOS GOLD,” After providing for his family in Marcos’ Letter of Instruction, the whole wealth derived from this was supposed to be given to the FILIPINO PEOPLE. “This was the “MARCOS WEALTH” that some politicians and churchmen kept on saying was the ILLGOTTEN” Marcos wealth that until today is in “Marcos secret accounts.”

On April 9, 1973 Marcos said: “My earthly goods have been placed in the custody and for the disposition of the Marcos Foundation dedicated to the welfare of the
Filipino people.”

The Unwritten History of the Philippines, The claimed that part of the Islands of the Philippines is the lost City of Atlantis

05/04/2020

This COVID-19 Pandemic will end in either [a] mass deployment of a prophylactic or [b] achievement of natural herd immunity, both of which are still far on the horizon.

But by hook or by crook, COVID-19 will eventually end. And when it does, we will wake up into a world that's very different from what we used to know.

For the foreseeable future, the single primary defining rule will be our aversion to physical contact, brought by our collective fear of another pandemic, may that be due to COVID-19 or some other pathogen that will come along.

And with that rule come consequences. Let me list some of that I can think of.

[1] TOURISM - The travel industry will suffer for years to come as most people will prefer to stay home. Many airlines, hotels, tourist attractions, and the like will have to either scale down or close altogether.

[2] BAILOUTS - I heard that a certain solon suggested a bailout for tourism-related firms, but I find it hard to find a good reason for bailing out firms that will just need another bailout afterward. That's just like resuscitating Kodak's camera film business in the age of digital photography. What should be bailed out are small and medium non-tourism businesses that can actually generate profitable jobs.

[3] EMPLOYMENT - Most firms will encourage telecommuting in an attempt to keep their employees healthy. This may hurt the real estate market as demand for office space may drastically fall, although the need for more space between workstations may at least partially mitigate this issue.

[4] TELECOMS - With more staying home, I expect an enormous strain on the country's clunky telecoms infrastructure. The administration must introduce drastic reforms in the telecoms sector to meet demand, or the post-COVID economy may overheat.

[5] MASS TRANSPORTATION - Mass transportation may need to be redesigned to reflect the New Normal. We can't pack people as tightly anymore. I don't know how this will be addressed.

[6] ENTERTAINMENT - Television will be stronger on socioeconomic classes C, D, E, and online on-demand content for A, B, and upper C. If the country's telecoms significantly improve, local content will face tougher competition with more diverse, on-demand, and online international offerings.

[7] FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS - Traditional dine-in restaurants will take a significant hit, and they'll need to make their home delivery service more seriously. Higher-end restaurants, e.g. fine dining, may take a harder hit than everybody else.

[8] FOOD PREFERENCES - With the projected rise in telecommuting comes more free time for the average worker, and with COVID-19 comes a potential obsession for boosting immunity, i.e., increased demand for cheap but healthier food options. Heavily processed food may still be popular, but as the economy matures, they will start looking for those that can help them fight a future epidemic.

[9] AGRICULTURE - We haven't felt it as strongly yet, but the scarcity of food in the coming months due to the hoarding of food-exporting countries will encourage greater support for local agriculture. Food Security, which wasn't really a priority of any post-EDSA government, will finally be given significant importance, possibly in the form of agricultural subsidies.

[10] EDUCATION - Classroom-based learning will likely decline as more educational institutions find ways to promote distance learning. As to whether distance learning will be more effective than the traditional method, only time will tell.

[11] RESIDENTIAL REAL ESTATE - People will more likely avoid living in high-density housing like condominiums or row houses, and they'll get out of it as soon as they can. With the rise of telecommuting and distance learning, proximity to offices and schools will play a less critical role in housing choices. Consequently, I expect a surge in real estate values of rural land as more people prefer lower-density and less polluted and self-contained communities.

[12] MANUFACTURING - Domestic manufacturing will likely be encouraged as a matter of National Security. The same goes for Research and Development that goes hand-in-hand with it. What we want is a future Philippines with a strong R&D culture, which better equips the nation to cope with new threats (e.g., viruses).

[13] MALLS - Malls will take a significant hit. We already have a strong "mall culture," but as soon as people are informed of the final death toll of the local COVID-19 epidemic, mindsets will change.

[14] CHURCHES - Churches will likely suffer more reduced attendance. However, I do not expect the popularity of religion to wane, as more people look for a higher power to keep their sanity intact. However, this may be a significant blow to some churches that rely heavily on donations for survival.

[15] POPULATION GROWTH - I expect a drop in birth rates throughout the world as people are less likely to engage in physical contact. It's so simple, but it makes sense. This will hurt countries that already have aging populations (Italy, Japan, White United States). However, the effect on emerging economies like the Philippines could be positive, as young workers will have more disposable income for self-development.

There may be a minor baby boom among currently married couples and that's not what I'm talking about. I am talking about the current population of singles who are too scared to meet strangers for fear of getting sick.

TOKYO: Japan's Fujifilm has begun clinical trials to test the effectiveness of its anti-flu drug Avigan in treating patients with the new coronavirus, after reports of promising results in China.

Trials in China have suggested Avigan (generic name: favipiravir) could play a role in shortening the recovery time for patients infected with coronavirus.

"The trial will be conducted on 100 patients until the end of June," a company spokesman told AFP on Wednesday.

The Philippines could be one of the richest countries in the world by 2050

Amidst news of the Philippine peso hitting its lowest slump in a decade, a new report from professional services network PricewaterhouseCoopers has predicted the 32 most powerful economies in the world by 2050, based on projected global GDP and purchasing power.

In 33 years' time, the global economy could "more than double in size, far outstripping population growth due to continued technology-driven productivity improvements," writes Bill Martin, a reporter for Business Insider.

"Many of the world's current powerhouse economies like Japan and China will have slipped down global rankings, replaced by countries such as India and Indonesia, which are currently emerging markets," adds Martin.

The full report by PwC looks into "economic productivity" and "standards of living" across a certain period. The Philippines makes the 19th spot, while the United States has been overtaken by China and India.

Good news for Filipino travelers! Starting in 2020, South Korea will welcome tourists from the Philippines even without a visa.

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance and the Ministry of Justice announced on December 12 that the government of South Korea’s “Plan for Promoting Foreign Tours” will allow Philippine passport holders to enter the country, visa-free.

The government program will allow tourist groups to enter airports in inland areas, such as Seoul, Incheon, and Busan, for up to 5 days without a visa, as long as their final destination is Jeju Island.

The Pinoy Seoul report on December 15 revealed the government plan as part of their “Economic Policy Direction” that will be fully announced in December.

The New Visa-Free Program will cover the Philippines, Vietnam, and Indonesia

The Jeju area visitors visa-free program is one of the three ways to enter South Korea that was announced by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in November. Visa-free entry can also be gained by tourists in transit to third countries or by foreign transfer passengers.

South Korea is a popular travel destination for Filipinos amidst the ever-increasing patronage of Korean pop culture, with even Broadway star Lea Salonga exchanging fan tweets with Korean star Lee Sung Kyung.

Korean Dramas (K-Dramas) have been adapted either with subbed audio in Filipino or remade into local versions such as the Descendants of the Sun.

The Koreans are loving the Filipinos back as they have been named by the Department of Tourism as the top-ranking tourists in the Philippines.

Filipino actors have also been awarded in South Korean festivals, among them, Filipino actors Alden Richards and Dennis Trillo who were awarded the Asian Star Prize at the Seoul International Drama Awards and Maja Salvador who was named Best Actress at the Busan International Film Festival’s 1st Asia Contents Awards.

The 1st Korea Pinoy International Film Festival was held this year and marked the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between South Korea and the Philippines.
