Have you heard of the story of the monkey and the turtle? Well, Tawi-Tawi has rich stories of monkeys and turtles. If Bud Bongao has monkeys, “Taganak Island" has its hundreds of turtles lay on the island's shore yearly. So imagine, how numerous this island has in several years. Thus, Taganak island is a breeding site of the endangered Philippine Turtle. Come with me as we discover this Natural Wildlife Sanctuary!

Badjao! Badjao! Badjao! How fascinating their tribe is in Tawi-Tawi! Do you know that the Badjaos of Tawi-Tawi are different from the Badjao that you see in the cities of the Philippines? I tell you, they are not the beggars that you see in the streets all over the country. The beautiful Badjao village in Tawi-tawi showcases the wonderful culture and livelihoods of the diligent and industrious Badjao which are evident in handmade mats with colorful designs.

Guys, do you know that Islam was first introduced to the Tausug and Sama of Tawi-Tawi? No wonder that the first mosque ever built in the Philippines was in Simunul, Tawi-Tawi. Guys, how I wish you could visit this historical mosque, the Sheik Makhdum Mosque! Sheik Karimmul Makhdum, an Arab Missionary, initiated the building of the mosque when he reached the island in 1380 AD. Join me this summer as I visit my first cousins whose origins are from Simunul, Tawi-Tawi!

Guys, are you fond of trekking to the mountain’s summit? Let’s go to a place that hosts hundreds of monkeys which are colored white and brown. Surely, you will enjoy feeding the monkeys with bananas! Isn’t it wonderful? Come and see the richness of the biodiversity of Tawi-Tawi, the Bongao Peak!
