In the 1800s, the elegant, artistic, and sturdy traditional handloom weaving products made by the Bangareños were used as boat sails by the European Seamen. Among the more famous handwoven products were blankets bearing different designs and clothing materials. The handwoven product called “Abel” is distinguished from all other Philippine and even nearby Asian textiles for its sturdiness in construction, stark simplicity of design, and practicality in function.
