East of town, Pasaleng Bay is home to Bantay Abot Cave, a natural tunnel eroded through the headland, and secluded Maira-ira Beach. Area waterfalls include Kabigan and Anuplig.

Solsona Apayao Road

Ilocos Norte-Apayao road becoming popular ‘highway tourism’ area

Missing the old Baguio City when almost every corner still smelled of fresh pine trees?

Adventure-seekers had found a similar spot on a trip to the Ilocos Norte-Apayao road located between the boundary of Barangays Manalpac in Solsona town and Butao in Calanasan, Apayao, some 40 kilometers from Laoag.

Thousands of curious visitors and mountaineers now ride a motorbike or a 4x4 off-road vehicle to reach the newly-opened highway linking the two provinces, where a view deck at the top offers them a picturesque sight of surrounding areas with rich flora and fauna, amid a sea of clouds.

The misty cold wind that welcomes visitors is akin to that in Baguio, the country's summer capital, in the earlier times when it was less dense and had no traffic congestion.

The most preferable mode of transportation is 4 x 4 or any wheels that caan endure steep road. Expect a lot of rocky roads

THE CAPE BOJEADOR LIGHTHOUSE

Also known as Burgos Lighthouse because it is located in the town of Burgos, the Cape Bojeador Lighthouse is a cultural heritage structure here in Ilocos Norte. The cape used to be very busy as galleons used to pass by. It’s been more than 100 years since it was established and it is still fully functional — a beacon signaling to ships that they have entered the Philippine territory.

Cape Bojeador Lighthouse is the counterpart of Cape Engano Lighthouse in Palaui, Santa Ana, Cagayan, which marks the northeasternmost tip.
