๐ก๐๐ช๐ฆ | CITHM hauls awards in BAFBEX 12 Gastrolympics, 15th Natโl Food Showdown
College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management (CITHM) students displayed Lipa City Collegesโ brand of tourism and hospitality excellence as they triumphed the Batangas Food and Beverage Exposition 2024 (BAFBEX 12) Gastrolympics and the 15th National Food Showdown-Lutong Ala Eh, The Outlets at Lima and University of Batangas-Lipa Campus, November 10 and 21-22.
Setting up the pace in table setting, CITHM students Jhasime Lasat, Jules Lawrence Macuha, and Jaica Virgenia Malaga emerged third place in the table set-up competition in the De La Salle Lipa-led provincial-wide food and beverage expo themed, "Gastrolympics: Creating a Gastronomic Journey with a Surprise on the Senses."
Meanwhile, taking their spots in the national food competition themed, "Kusina Filipina: Keep the Momentumโฆ Full Speed Ahead!", the following students surfaced as they bagged awards in various culinary competitions: Jenny Rose Cuevas (Gold Award, Mocktail Mixing-College Division); Leigh Allen Divina (Silver Award, Cocktail Mixing-College Division); Hannah Alyssa Bote (Silver Award, Napkin Folding-College Division); Kyle Laurence Mendoza, Shane Ashley Palomares, and Athea Nicole Umali (Bronze Award, Table Setting with Centerpiece); Rica Mae Imperial (Bronze Award, Baby Cakes Display-College Division); and Jimuel De Leon, Ryan Adrian Rivera, and Gerbie Jewel Tormes (5th Place, HRT Quiz Bee).
Meanwhile, climbing to the top of the national food chain, St. Therese MTC Colleges clinched the overall champion spot at the collegiate level joined by 34 fellow entrants all over Luzon, while the University of Batangas - Batangas City Senior High School flared the overall title run in the senior high school division.
The 4th edition of the two-day nationwide culinary contest this year in Lipa City hosted by UBLC is anchored on the countrywide celebration of culinary skills, creativity, and talent among the top chefs, food innovators, and hotel and restaurant schools and universities in the country.
"Ang pinaka-bunso ng National Food Showdown at napakalapit sa sa aking puso ay ang Lipa. Ang importante talaga dito, lahat magsama-sama kahit na iba-iba ang rehiyon na pinanggalingan ng National Food Showdown, iisa lang naman ang tema at [objective] ng ating National Food Showdown, [at ito ay] maipagmalaki at mag-create ng awareness sa sarili nating bayan, na ang pagkaing Pilipino ay dapat nating ipagbunyi," shared Chef Myrna Segismundo, overall chairman of the nationwide competition, in an interview with Balisong Channel.
The Lipeรฑa chef also mentioned that the two-year old national food and beverage competition that started in 2023 promised to champion local culinary practices and sustainability efforts in heeding the call of reducing food wastes among local food industries.
