Crew Spotlight: A Story of Perseverance and Faith 📢

One sentence that resonates with me at this moment is, "Thank you, Lord."

I started my career as a Linen Keeper at a five-star hotel in the Philippines. Inspired by my father, who worked abroad for 25 years, I pursued an opportunity in Macau, China, as a Laundry Attendant. After nearly four years, I returned home due to the pandemic.

I became a Linen and Laundry Supervisor at a hotel in Makati, making my father proud as he shared my success with family and friends. But when the pandemic hit, my world changed. I lost my job, and soon after, my father—a devastating blow that left me struggling to find purpose. Eventually, prayer and support from loved ones helped me move forward, realizing my father would want me to continue pursuing my dreams. With renewed strength, I decided to seek opportunities abroad once again.

Then I applied at MSC, after a while they offered me the Linen Keeper position, I honored my father by visiting his grave and thanking God. This journey felt like a tribute to his legacy. As I prepared to leave, I felt both sadness at leaving my mother and joy in pursuing this opportunity for her. Seeing the ship for the first time filled me with excitement, and I shared the moment with her.

The first months on the ship were tough—working without days off, adapting to a multicultural crew, and managing limited contact with family. At times, I thought of returning home, but I drew strength from my father’s resilience. Prayer and visits to a local church kept me grounded. Remembering that working on a cruise ship was a rare opportunity, I chose to persevere.

Over time, I adapted to life on the ship, enjoying the chance to explore new countries. Near the end of my first contract, my department head asked about my goals, and I shared my ambition to reach a managerial role like my father. Encouraged to pursue Chief Laundry Officer training, I accepted the challenge and returned home with a positive evaluation. For any seafarer, completing a contract and returning safely is a major accomplishment.

During my second contract, I received two "People of the Month" nominations, a meaningful acknowledgment. Shortly after, I was informed of a transfer for Chief Laundry Officer training. Ready for the challenge, I joined a new ship as the first female in this role. It was demanding, but I stayed focused, determined to achieve my goals. Today, I serve as Chief Laundry Officer, grateful for the journey and continually working to grow and support my team. With deep gratitude, I say, "Thank you, Lord, and thank you, MSC family.”
