MALABUYOC: The Municipality of the Fruitful
We all have believed in folklores. We lived in a past where an unfounded narrative, the very idea of our hometown's name "malabuyoc" was thought to have been derived from the terms "mala" meaning dry in Cebuano language, and "buyok" defined as the process of cooking rice by boiling water first before adding the staple. Hence by this definition, therefore, are we the people who dry-cooked rice? Well, many would prefer a more befitting description.
Fortunately, there is an alternative reality.
Today, Malabuyoc turns its head towards what it is capable of becoming in the era ahead rather than dwelling in a not-so-promising past. Malabuyocanons will finally do so by recognizing the abundance of homegrown talents, resources, and relationships that have always been there - but were never cultivated into accomplishment. This is where Malabuyoc takes on a more proactive stance and appraises itself as the 'Municipality of the Fruitful" or "Ang Lungsod Sa Bulahanon"
This marks the birth of a new Malabuyoc festival, one that will promote the hometown's capability to produce in abundance, for the Malabuyocanons to be "fruitful" - the BULAHANON FESTIVAL, as envisioned by founder Mayor Edang Piedad.
More of a quest than celebration, Mayor Edang says the Bulahanon Festival will showcase the yearly "fruition" of Malabuyoc's local industries in agriculture, fishing, tourism, trade, among others.
In the same occasion, the festivities will highlight individual and collective Malabuyocanons for their exemplary feats while finally honoring those whose recognition to our halls of fame have long been overdue.
Vice Mayor Ann Allosada, the co-founder, shares the vision and enthusiasm and readies her council for the roll-out of this festival.
This begins the new masterplan. A masterplan with you, the Malabuyocanon, as its centerpiece. The future is exciting! USWAG MALABUYOC!!!
