Cebu's "Ngohiong". A Cebuano's favorite.

This staple is comparable to the famous spring roll, and it’s deep fried and mainly made of Ubod (bamboo shoots) and ground pork. Each place has its own unique mix of Ngohiong, so don’t expect them all to be the same.

This is the popular breakfast in the region, P**o Maya is made from glutinous rice mixed with ginger and coconut. This is usually paired with “Tablea”, concentrated cacao with added sugar and the famous Cebu mango.

Hot soup in the morning. (LARANG)

Start the day of sightseeing in the city with a piping hot soup in the morning.
is a sour and spicy fish soup that warms the tummy. The most popular version of this dish is the : na Bakasi using Bakasi or reef eels. Reef eels are believed to be an aphrodisiac and Entoy’s Bakasihan in Cebu was featured in Netflix’s program –Street Food.

Another hot soup best enjoyed in the cold mornings is Balbacua, which is a beef stew made from beef parts like oxtail, feet, skin and joints. Its name is derived from the Spanish word “barbacoa” which means cooking meat very slowly on an open fire for several hours. Therefore, It is a hearty soup with meat so tender, it melts in your mouth.

After filling yourself with hot soup, embark on a city tour, making stops to Magellan’s cross, Lapu-lapu monument, Heritage of Cebu Monument, Fort San Pedro, and Casa Gorordo Museum.

MALAPASCUA, WORLD’S DIVING SPOT WITH THRESHER SHARKS

It’s definitely more fun in Cebu! Just when you think that swimming with the gentle giant “Butanding” is the only unique and adventurous swim experience you can do here in Cebu, you are wrong.

Many Cebuanos don’t even know that Malapascua is recognized to be the only diving spot in the world where divers can encounter Thresher Sharks every day. No wonder a lot of local and foreign diving enthusiasts keep coming back!

Thresher Sharks are known to be deep-diving sharks who mostly live well below the recreational diving limits. Thankfully you’d get to see them all year round in Malapascua.
About 7.8 km off the coast of Malapascua, on the Sunken island of Monad shoal is where these sharks are usually found. Divers are only allowed to participate in natural animal encounters and must not feed, bait, or capture in any of the Thresher Shark dives. Better appreciate in a distance because they are very shy creatures.

Diving at Malpascua is truly a world-class adventure, make sure not to miss it in your bucket list!
