Dubbed as the city's summer capital, it has a long stretch of almost 6km clean coastline and unexplored beaches.... It is bounded in the North by Bogtong(Oas); East by Basicao C (Pioduran); West by Cabarian (Ligao) and South by Burias Pass. In 2007, it has a population... of more or less 3,000 people. Most of the MaoenoeƱos are Roman Catholic comprising almost 95% of the populace. A traditional 3-
hr ceremony of flower offering to the image of Virgin Mary is observed daily in the whole month of May with the antique Latin Rosary and Spanish Chants. People are mostly friendly and hospitable. The native tongue is Bicol Ligao. The place got its name from a Bicol word "Ma-on-on" which means "to boil a fish," (a favorite way of cooking fish in the place.) At present, a large portion of Maonon Bay was declared Fish Sanctuary and Marine Reserve; and is a good venue for diving activities because of its growing population of fish and corals. Many tourist attractions are yet to be developed like the pristine fine beaches from sitio sabang to sitio tambac;and the Busay Falls (1km from Brgy Proper). Watch for yourself the perfect sunrise and sunset in Maonon Bay. Maonon is almost 51 kms from Ligao City Proper or a 1.5hr drive in a private vehicle. It can be reached by land and sea. Its barangay proper lies along the West Coast National Road 13km from Pioduran,the nearest urban area. The Bacong-Abella-Maonon Road, which is at present, under construction will cut the travel time going to and from the place. This 19.56 kms of "roller-coaster" road which traverse from the peaks of a mountain range,can be developed as a tourist attraction as you can enjoy the sight of vast greenery while on the way. POLITICAL SUBDIVISION:
MAONON is subdivided into seven districts.. Four of which are big sitios namely:
CAPULAC (1st District with (+) or (-) 90 households);
LUMBANG (5th District with (+) or (1) 20 households);
SABANG (6th District with (+) or (-) 70 households); and
TAMBAC (7th District with (+) of (-) 180 households)
The Barangay proper is divided into three separate districts (2nd, 3rd and 4th districts)
EDUCATION:
Maonon is the only barangay in the City of Ligao with two complete elementary schools, namely Maonon Integrated School (Elem) and Tambac Elementary School. Maonon Integrated School is also the first Integrated School established in the City which integrates elementary and high school departments in one campus. The high school dept was established during SY2008-2009, which was originally an extension of Cabarian High School.
