The Sher Mandal, also known as Sher Shah's Library, is a historical edifice in Delhi, India. The place is located within part of the Purana Qila complex. Accordingly, it was built in the mid of 16th century by Sher Shah Suri, the ruling monarch of the Sur Dynasty. Sher Mandal is a two-story octagonal tower composed of red sandstone that is a fine example of Mughal architecture. It was originally meant as an observatory tower, but it was eventually used as a library and a leisure pavilion. Sher Mandal received historical significance since it was the site of a terrible accident that killed Mughal Emperor Humayun in 1556.
