Interested to know the level of transportation emissions in key cities of Zamboanga Peninsula?

Google Environmental Insights Explorer (EIE) is a powerful tool that provides actionable data and insights to cities and regions, empowering them to reduce global emissions.

The five cities in the Zamboanga Peninsula have been grappling with transportation emissions. These emissions arise from all trips that either start or end within city boundaries. Unfortunately, all five cities experienced an increase in total transportation emissions during 2022. While the exact figures vary, it’s essential to recognize that these emissions impact air quality, public health, and overall sustainability.

Let’s zoom in on Zamboanga City. During the same period, it registered a total of tCO2e (metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent) due to transportation emissions. Now, for reference, consider the bustling City of Manila, the capital of the Philippines. It recorded a staggering 1,790,000 tCO2e during the same timeframe. That’s approximately four times higher than Zamboanga City’s emissions! 🌆

The annual transportation emissions are derived by extrapolating the total distance traveled for all trips taken within the city.
Factors such as the types of vehicles (cars, buses, motorcycles, etc.) and their average fuel consumption contribute to these emissions.
It’s a complex interplay of data, vehicle choices, and urban mobility patterns.
