The Central Luzon Leg of the Philippine Experience Caravan made its final stop at the vibrant Giant Lantern Festival in the Christmas Capital of the Philippinesโ€”City of San Fernando, Pampanga.

Audience were enthralled by the spectacular show, locally known as Ligligan Parul, which showcased the countryโ€™s largest and most colorful Christmas celebration.

Ten barangaysโ€”Bulaon, Calulut, Del Pilar, Dolores, San Jose, San Juan, San Nicolas, Sta. Lucia, Sto. Niรฑo, and Telabastaganโ€”presented lanterns up to 20 feet in diameter that featured thousands of manually-controlled lights dancing to the rhythm of the music.

More than a display of lights, the festival also shines a spotlight on Fernandinosโ€™ artistic ingenuity, resilience, and unity. The effort and creativity that go into building the giant lanterns are a true reflection of the Fernandinos' spirit.

The event left a lasting impression on the delegates, offering a rare glimpse into the holiday spirit that defines Central Luzon, particularly the City of San Fernando.

Recently, the city was also named one of the top Christmas destinations in Asia and the world by CNN Travel, ranking 5th among the 15 best places to visit this holiday season.

Embracing the spirit of the holiday season in the region couldn't be any more delightful as the Philippine Experience โ€” Paskong Pinoy Edition โ€” serves more delectable surprises in the Culinary and Christmas Capital, Pampanga!

Set in a relaxed afternoon ambiance, with a stunning sunset as the backdrop, Alviz Farm opened its doors to our delegates, offering food and music in the true Kapampangan way. Reflecting a traditional barrio fiesta, where โ€˜kusinerosโ€™ and โ€˜kusinerasโ€™ busily prepared the โ€˜hain,โ€™ guests arrived and immersed themselves not only in eating but also in the experience of cooking Kapampangan favorites.

Upon arrival, guests were greeted with refreshing buko sherbet, while a whole lechon was served and devoured in traditional โ€˜kamayanโ€™ style. Highlights in the first โ€˜salu-saloโ€™ of the food and farm experience included freshly fried chicharon, perfectly stirred batirol, and ube halaya served piping hot from the โ€˜kawa.โ€™ Guests were free to roam and indulge in anything that caught their eye.

As the participants settled in, owner and director Andy Alviz shared a brief history of Alviz Farm and the homegrown theater group, ArtiSta Rita. No further introduction was needed as the group began performing their new original songs, including Love The Philippines and Where Endless Stories Begin.

An ode to their hometown, ArtiSta Rita continued to perform a series of song and dance ensembles, including their classics Atin Cu Pung Singsing and Mekeni Tuki Ka, Malaus Ka Pampanga! (Exploring Pampanga), which encouraged the crowd to sing and dance along. The last note of the performance marked the opening of the buffet, where a special menu was curated to showcase the renowned culinary prowess of Pampanga.

Local specialties such as Asadong Matua, Biringhe, Buro, Chili Sugpo, Kare-Kare, Lechon, Pako, Sisig Babi, Swam Mais, Tidtad, Buko Salad, Sans Rival, and more filled guestsโ€™ plates as they continued to enjoy the evening, celebrating and sharing endless stories over food and local music.

The Philippine Experience embarked on a journey through the Cradle of the Philippine Republic, spending over half a day in the historic City of Malolos, marking the final full day of the caravanโ€™s visit to Central Luzon.

Cultural performances inspired by local festivals greeted our delegates. At the entrance of Malolos City Cathedral, street dancers welcomed guests with vibrant choreography from the Halamanan Festival of Guiguinto, Bulacan.

After a brief but meaningful visit inside the cathedral, guests prepared to join a religious procession in honor of Sto. Niรฑo de Malolos. Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco led the group to the Sto. Niรฑo de Malolos Chapel, where she performed a ceremonial crowning of the Holy Child.

As tourists strolled through the heritage district, they were joined by the lively Singkaban dancers and immersed in a fiesta atmosphere. The streets were adorned with Singkaban bamboo arches, banderitas, and booths showcasing products from local MSMEs, while festive cultural music filled the air.

Ancestral homes opened their doors to showcase local artisans demonstrating their craft. Each visit revealed a deep appreciation for thriving traditions that continue to support the lives and livelihoods of many communities.

The hours spent creating handmade craftsโ€”such as the intricately woven buri hats, perfectly cut borlas de pastillas tassels, and the painstakingly assembled Singkaban bamboo archesโ€”speak to the passion of Bulakenyos in preserving their cultural legacy.

At Barasoain Church and Museum, guests were greeted by cheerful local dancers who invited them to join in the Sayaw sa Obando (Fertility Dance) to the rhythm of Santa Clarang Pinung-Pino, creating a joyful and memorable moment.

The day also featured a guided tour of the museum, which highlighted the cityโ€™s significant contributions to the nationโ€™s sovereignty. The visit culminated in a hosted lunch by the local government of Malolos City and the Province of Bulacan.

The featured dishes included local noche buena favorites, as well as regional delicacies such as longganisang Calumpit, tamales ng Meycauyan, sukang Paombong, tinapa ng Bulakan, espasol ng Angat, minasa ng Bustos, chicharon ng Sta. Maria, sweets ng San Ildefonso, and many more.

Governor Daniel Fernando, represented by Provincial Administrator Antonette Constantino, along with Congressman Ambrosio โ€œBoyโ€ Cruz Jr., Mayor Christian Natividad, and Vice Mayor Miguel Alberto Bautista, personally welcomed the delegation and shared their greetings.

Malolos Cityโ€™s vibrant community, festive spirit, and rich cultural heritage further exemplify the many reasons to . Todayโ€™s presentation of the provinceโ€™s attractions and traditions is a testament to the beauty of Bulakenyos, whose pride in their culture makes them a source of inspiration for all Filipinos. Bulacan, Babalik-balikan!

Like weโ€™ve never seen Pampangaโ€™s famous Christmas lanterns, a beaming and heartwarming procession of the unique Christmas parols of Magalang, locally known as โ€œLubenas Ning Paskuโ€, just cheered the hearts of street spectators as their eyes were glued on this bright annual tradition.

As a night ender, Philippine Experience delegates witnessed the parade of lights that featured works from the 26 participating barangays, each showcasing their captivating iterations of the Lubenas lanterns. Every group carried a cross-shaped parol at the forefront, twelve radiant round parols in the middle, and a carrozza of patron saints that lit up the streets.

The hope, unity, spirituality, and creativity that coalesced to keep this solemn yet lustrious tradition alive makes the Lubenas a true icon of Paskong Pinoy in this side of Pampanga.

Further elevating the delegatesโ€™ experience was a moving performance by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra who filled the air with the sound of familiar Christmas carols, under the baton of Mr. Ariel Yonzon, Associate Director of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Hon. Maria Lourdes Lacson, Mayor of Magalang, was joined by DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco in the festivities. In her speech, Mayor Lacson narrated how Magalang champions preservation of parol-making craftsmanship and tradition. More than a celebration, this event shares a story of local culture, sustainability efforts, and thriving unity, passed on to future generations.

Guests were warmly welcomed by a cultural performance by the children of Bale-Balayan: Museum for the Poor and Center for Transformation through the Arts, setting the vibe for an enriching journey through Pampangaโ€™s colorful history.
