Having started as a Travel Agent in 2013, I was by then already bitten by the Travel Bug, and helping people meet their goals was not new to me. I was a Registered Nurse for many years, both in Ontario and North Carolina, and retired in 2011 from the Cardiology department at Kingston General Hospital, where I still volunteer on a weekly basis. Early in my Nursing career, I left the field for eight
years and became a Real Estate Broker in Brockville, Ontario, during the recession of the mid 1970’s and early 80’s. So, becoming a Travel Agent was a natural fit for my time and interests, now freed up by retirement from nursing. My wife and I love to travel and our trips have taken us to, every province in Canada, except Newfoundland and Labrador (which we definitely have in our sights); many areas in the US (Las Vegas, Florida, Myrtle Beach, and all throughout the Eastern seaboard); England (a few stays in London); much of Scotland; Wales; Ireland (north and south); Nassau, Bahamas; Cozumel, Mexico; Cuba; Mauritius; Dubai; Istanbul, Izmir and Ephesus, Turkey; Mykonos Island, and Athens, Greece; Venice, Naples, Rome, Florence, and Tuscany, Italy; Toulon, and Cassis, France; Barcelona, Spain; Prague, Czech Republic; various cities in Germany; Vienna, Austria; Slovenia; Budapest, Hungary; Amsterdam, and Basel, Switzerland. One vacation we particularly enjoyed was a Coach tour with my two brothers and their wives, first spending a weekend in Aberdeen, Scotland, the birthplace of our father, and then proceeding by train to Glasgow where we started our tour - we travelled by coach through Scotland, then a small portion of England, followed by Wales, and finally from the south to north in Ireland, and across to Glasgow where we ended that wonderful journey. We have taken three Ocean Cruises, two on the Caribbean, and one on the Mediterranean Sea. We have also taken two River Cruises in Europe, our first one in 2015, having been one on the Danube River starting with a three-day land excursion in Prague, and then embarking in Nuremberg for a seven day river cruise visiting Regensburg, Germany; Vienna, Austria; the towns and lakes in the Austrian Alps; Budapest, Hungary; and ending up with a three day stopover in Vienna, taking in the Piber horse show (Lippizans) at the Spanish Riding School; an authentic Austrian meal at a countryside restaurant; and a Strauss/Mozart Concert at the Vienna Concert Hall. Our second River Cruise was in 2016, when we embarked our ship for a cruise on the Rhine river, in Amsterdam, after having spent three days in that beautiful city. Along the Rhine we enjoyed the sites of Cologne and then Rudesheim, Germany, and the Rhine Gorge where we saw over thirty castles in passing. Then, came Speyer, Germany; and Strasbourg, France; Breisach, Germany; and Riquewihr, France; and finally disembarking in Basel, Switzerland. After this cruise we flew to Heathrow airport where friends met us, and we spent the next few days exploring Surrey, Stratford on Avon, the Cotswolds, Windsor, and Ascott, towns and cities all in England. I have completed Specialty courses on the Azores, Myrtle Beach, Orlando, the Best Western Inns, The Air Miles Rewards Program, the Rocky Mountaineer train journeys, Transat (Manulife) Insurance Advisor program, (Basic and Advanced), Avalon Waterways Specialist, the River Cruises Specialist, the AMA Waterways specialist course, and the Bachelor of Adventure course with Royal Caribbean University. I strive to give my Clients exceptional and personalized service, in a well-informed and fair manner, with complete integrity, at the same time helping them create lasting memories of enjoyable vacations. Should you be looking for a Travel Agent who will work hard to make your vacation a memorable reality, and assist you in making the right buying decision for travel , please get in touch. I look forward to meeting you and assisting you with your Travel Plans. As a Home-Based agent, I will meet you in your home, or wherever it is convenient for you. I can be most easily reached by e-mail at [email protected], or directly on my cell at 613-539-5418.

When I announced on my Facebook Business Page that I had joined THE TRAVEL AGENT NEXT DOOR (TTAND), someone responded by saying "Buy Local." Also, today (June 21, 2018), a recipient of my Business Card said, "Oh, you work for a Toronto-Based Agency?"
Both of the above comments are fair ones, since I live in Kingston, and some folks only want to deal locally!
Well, let me explain …. "The Travel Agent Next Door" is not a Travel Agency in the traditional sense. It is instead, a Host Agency.
It does not sell, Wholesale, Retail, or otherwise.
As a Host Agency, it ONLY SUPPORTS Home-Based Travel Agents (roughly one-third of agents are now home-based) and Small Travel Agencies, with Accounting, Training, Education, and General Support, on an ongoing basis.
When I joined the Travel Agent Next Door, I had the option, as I do anytime, to Custom Brand my agency (for example, "Don's Travel"), but I chose to remain associated directly with TTAND Branding.
The Travel Agent Next Door was founded in 2014 by Flemming Friisdahl, current President and Founder. In only four years roughly 500 agents have joined and are supported by, TTAND.
Flemming and TTAND have won some very prestigious awards this year, such as The "Readers' Choice Awards for "The Host Agency of the Year;" Flemming won the Sandals Resortsaward for "CEO of the Year;" and also the ACTA (Association of Canadian Travel Agents) and Air Canada "Gerald Heifetz Trailblazer" Award.
In Ontario, TICO (Travel Institute Council of Ontario) requires that Travel Agents, or any Traditional Travel Agency, give the address of the company, and my Host Agency’s (TTAND) address is in Toronto.
At this time, it is hard to imagine a large Host Agency being based in Kingston, but this may not forever be the case.
So, In Summary, I have my own Home-Based Travel Agency in Kingston, but am supported by an exceptional Professional Host Agency, with which I am very pleased to be associated!
