More details about Native House. . . if you are drawn to things that are unique, and a little "off the beaten path", you should make an appointment to tour the house. It is very open style native house, like camping-out... but much more comfortable! Tree frogs and gecko are our exterminators, haha! Usually the sea breezes and the insulating quality of the nipa palm roof keep the house so cool, air conditioning is not needed. Typically, a native house in the Pilipinas has exterior walls of woven bamboo strips, or Amacan. It's like living in a giant beautiful basket! And unlike concrete, amacan walls do not retain the heat of the day. Often native style house floors are only earthen, but the floors here are bamboo slats and painted wood. No generator here - occasional brown-outs or black-outs are usually short, 30 minutes to an hour, just a minor inconvenience. Be advised that the parking area is down the hill from the house... and the "hike" up the hill is not for the feeble--almost a little work-out in itself, but well worth the effort! More about the island of Bohol... a friendly and peaceful little island, located in the central Visayas. Bohol is home to several of the Philippines most popular tourist attractions, from the white sand beaches and dive resorts of Alona and Anda, to the Chocolate Hills and Loboc River tours, and those precious tiny primates, the Tarsiers, which have captured the hearts of so many who visit here. The closest local beach, called Laya Beach, is 5 to 10 minutes ride from the house. There are many covered picnic areas seaside that can be rented there (very inexpensive) - pack a picnic and spend the day! Or if you prefer the white sand beaches and dive resorts which are popular with tourists in Panglao Island, that is only a 15-25 minute ride.
