WHY DIVORCE NEEDS TO RETURN IN THE PHILIPPINES. We have not had the proper option of divorce in the Philippines since 1950. From there, it has been an uphill battle to bring it back; often vetoed by public officials who wish not to pay alimony under the excuse of "protecting the sanctity of marriage".

I was surprised to learn of couples, who I personally know, that seemed to get off to a promising beginning in their marriage, and are suddenly filing for annulment or having been granted annulment not long after they tied the knot. The Filipino — man or woman — will not admit, but there are a lot of broken homes in this country too difficult to count. If the culprit is not a philandering spouse, it is an abusive spouse. And if there are children caught in the marital crossfire, I grieve for them.

For those who are not convinced divorce is a positive solution; you might ask, "Then why did you get married to a person like that in the first place? Shouldn't you have known all this time that their personality was going to be that way?"

Let me tell you something: You will not always know.

Some times, your partner may start out straight-up decent and remain that way for many years. Then suddenly you are convinced that that person is the one. You want to share your life with this person and spend all your years together. You get married. Then situations — such as life stuggles or just some malevolent factor latent inside your spouse — changes them for the worse... and they are no longer the same decent person you once knew. They become frustated... angry... aggressive... and violent. They project their self-destructive disposition towards you; be it physically or even psychologically. You become the victim of their wrath and you cannot escape. They either refuse to reform, or worse, deny there is something wrong with them. In their eyes the fault is yours why they are abusive. You know that is not true, but you start hating your self for it.

A long-term abusive marriage here of approximately five to ten years can lead to three things: 1) You resort to adultery because you are not free to leave your hurtful spouse. 2) You stick it out but become so emotionally battered; you are either catatonic or need substances to dull the pain. 3) You probably end up dead. You do not know who to turn to, because you do not want to barrage their lives with problems beyond their plates; and you do not know how to sort it out on your own, because of how much your mind and well-being got fu**ed up by the man or woman you trusted your existence with.

So in conclusion, marriage is really a leap of faith. And you still have to keep making things work every day, whether the union is on the rocks or you find yourselves sailing smoothly. But at least the option of divorce (which, of course, has its share of due processes but is more accessible and SENSIBLE than the pricier annulment) should be there to aid you once the marriage becomes toxic and irrepairable. Because it is not fair when you are doing your part, while the other no longer wants to make the effort. Something (or rather, someone) has got to give.

I brought this up, because I wish more voices can be amplified to save more lives. We elect people in office to do their jobs because we believed in them (or so I hope); and they cannot even make this one thing happen. I worry this would fall on deaf ears or blind eyes, and the true morality of this country will crumble under the pretense of "good Christianhood". Please help me amplify this call to action. Do not take your voice for granted, for your voice is as just important as mine and the neighbour next door.

And to the newlyweds, I send my heart-felt congratulations. To those that have made it past a year or more, I am proud of you for keeping it together. To those who are trying, just remember: When things no longer work out between the two of you, and if you knew you tried to salvage it, do not beat yourself up and think that it was a mistake. Your marriage did not start out as a mistake. Your marriage was a choice born out of mutual love. It was not your fault at all.

Alert: Expect busier Manila Terminal 2 starting November 5

Beginning November 5, we expect a higher passenger volume at Terminal 2 of Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), when three other airlines transfer their domestic flights from another NAIA terminal to Terminal 2. This is part of an ongoing terminal rehabilitation and reshuffling initiative of the new NAIA airport management.

Given this situation, we highly encourage you to:

· Allot extra time at Manila airport: Check-in online and arrive early at the airport so you can have extra time to undergo airport procedures – at least 3 hours prior to departure for domestic flights.

· Monitor your flight status: Stay updated on your flight status by logging on to www.philippineairlines.com. Visit the Flight Status section at https://www.philippineairlines.com/en/flight-status.

· Ensure your luggage is properly labeled with your name, phone number, and email address: Consider adding a unique identifier, like a ribbon or strap – to make your bag easily recognizable. This will help you quickly identify your luggage in the carousel area.

· Follow airport announcements: Pay attention to public announcements and signs within the terminal for the latest information.

Please note that there is NO CHANGE to PAL's terminal assignments at Manila airport:

· All PAL domestic flights depart from and arrive at NAIA Terminal 2;

· All PAL international flights depart from and arrive at NAIA Terminal 1.

Additional Cancelled Flights Due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine
As of October 25, 2024; 9:00 AM

Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami) has brought prolonged heavy rains, strong winds, and widespread flooding to parts of the Philippines, causing our aircraft servicing activities in the recent days to take a much longer time to complete. The adverse weather conditions also left a number of our crew and aircraft out of position and had to be relocated back to their bases. We are working hard to restore our operations back to normal as promptly and safely as possible.

The safety of our passengers and crew remains our utmost priority. Cebu Pacific (CEB) strongly advises its passengers not to proceed to the airport unless they have confirmed bookings for flights which are currently still planned to operate. Please monitor the status of your flights via https://www.cebupacificair.com/flight-status or on the CEB mobile app and update your contact details via the Manage Booking portal https://www.cebupacificair.com/manage-booking to receive email and SMS notifications on flight reminders.

We strongly urge our passengers to consider whether their journeys are essential and give serious consideration to rescheduling travel plans to a later date.
