BANGGERA

The banggera is a slatted wooden shelf that juts out of the kitchen window of a traditional house in the Philippines. It is still seen in rural areas..

After washing, plates, cups and glasses are drained on the banggera where the wind can dry them.

Eggshells are often found decorating the spokes of the banggera. They are kept for molding gelatin, for measuring water (no measuring spoons in the province) or for pulverizing as fertilizer for plants. But more likely eggshells are exhibited on the banggera to tell the world: Look, we can afford eggs for breakfast!
