If you've reached the point where watching travel vlogs about Japan is no longer enough, it's time to kickstart your own adventure.

Visa and Requirements

For Filipinos planning a trip to Japan, various tourist visas are available based on your stay's duration and purpose. The two main types are:

Single-entry visa – permits a one-time entry with a maximum stay of 90 days.
Multiple-entry visa – allows multiple entries within a specific period, typically up to three years, with each visit limited to 15 or 30 days.

If your Japan visit is a leisure trip lasting no more than 90 days, apply for a tourist visa through accredited agencies of the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines. For non-leisure purposes or visits to friends and family residing in Japan, apply directly at the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines or the Consular Offices in Cebu or Davao.

Documents Needed for Japanese Tourist Visa Application for Filipinos

Ensure your Philippine passport has a minimum of six months validity and at least two blank pages. Here are the necessary documents:

Visa application form – downloadable from the Embassy or Consulate General of Japan in the Philippines.
PSA birth certificate issued within one year.
Additional requirements if:

Birth certificate is UNREADABLE: Submit a copy from the Local Civil Registrar.
Birth certificate is LATE REGISTRATION: Include Baptismal Certificate and School Record (Form 137).
Negative certificate result: Include a copy from the LCR and the Negative Certificate from the PSA.
PSA marriage certificate issued within one year (for married applicants only).
Additional requirements if:

Marriage certificate is UNREADABLE: Submit a Marriage Certificate from the LCR.
Negative certificate result: Include a copy from the LCR along with the Negative Certificate from the PSA.
Itinerary of your visit to Japan.
If you're funding your trip:

Bank Certificate
Photocopy of Income Tax Return (BIR Form 2316)
If someone from the Philippines is sponsoring your trip:

Guarantee Letter from your sponsor
Proof of relationship (such as PSA birth certificates)
Bank Certificate of sponsor
Photocopy of Income Tax Return (BIR Form 2316)
After Your Visa Application

Once your agency submits your visa application to the Japanese Embassy, you'll receive an 8-digit application number as confirmation. Allow at least five working days for processing.

If approved, your passport and visa will be released after following up. Be prepared for potential additional requirements or a required personal appearance at the embassy. Submit your application well in advance of your travel date, as the embassy may not expedite the process based on a confirmed flight.

Other Important Details

Submitting complete documents doesn't guarantee a visa.
Fake or tampered documents will result in denial.
Submitted documents won't be returned, regardless of approval status.
If the embassy requests additional documents, you have three months to comply. Failure to do so within this timeframe will result in application termination.
If denied, the reason won't be disclosed, and you can reapply after six months.
