On August 16, 2024, mountaineers from Central Mindanao University mountaineering club along with outdoor enthusiasts from Cebu, set out on an exciting eco-adventure, conquering the scenic Mt. Balatukan - the Kalagonoy-Lunotan Traverse Trail.

Embracing nature and adventure that Gingoog City has to offer, the visiting guests went through an exhilarating experience and went home with a deeper appreciation of the importance of environment to foster a sustainable eco tourism program.

We were honored to witness the ceremonial signing of the operational plan for eco-tourism for Mt. Balatucan, marking its inclusion in a protected area and its upcoming designation as a natural heritage site. 🌿🏞️

Mt. Balatucan, a majestic landmark shared by Claveria, Medina, and Gingoog, is on its way to preserving its natural beauty and cultural significance. This momentous event was graced by the Gingoog City Council, headed by Mayor Erick G. Cañosa, and esteemed IP representatives. We were also privileged to have the presence of Regional Executive Director DENR Region 10, Henry A. Adornado, Ph.D., OIC CENR Officer Gingoog City, Lisa B. Requiña, and Provincial Environment and Natural Resource Officer Misamis Oriental, Vergilino P. Alima. 🤝

Happening Now: First Aid Seminar and Basic knot tying and mountaineering course.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) is currently hosting an essential First Aid seminar at Kai Azul Beach, Gingoog City. This training, aimed at tourism tour guides and Sanguniang Kabataan (SK) members, focuses on equipping participants with critical first aid skills.

Under the expert guidance of CDRRMO trainers, attendees are learning to handle emergencies such as cuts, burns, fractures, and cardiac arrest. Practical sessions on CPR and effective use of first aid kits are also being conducted.

This initiative is a proactive step towards enhancing community safety and ensuring that both locals and tourists are well-protected. Participants are actively engaged and committed to integrating these life-saving skills into their roles.

In a momentous occasion, Gingoog City launched its Ridge to Reef Program on May 9, 2024 at the Gaisano Grand Mall, Gingoog City, showcasing its strong commitment to sustainable tourism.

Graced by the presence of our pro-active City Mayor, Hon. Erick G. Cañosa, City Vice Mayor Hon. Thaddeus P. Lugod, Department of Tourism-10 Regional Director Marie Elaine S. Unchuan, City Councilor SP Committee Chair on Tourism Hon. Stephanie Marie L. Kho, City Tourism Officer Audie Cornelio S. Ocampo, City Tourism Development Council Chair Mr. Jose L. Bollozos III, Gingoog City Heritage Culture and Arts Council Co-Chair Ms. Maggie Gudella Z. Tse, CENRO Liza Requiña, City Councilor Conrado R. Gomez Jr, City Councilor Judeline I. Bernaldez, IPMR Estoriano S. Mandahinog, City Councilor Jacob Johnny L. Motoomull, representatives from Mountaineering and Diving Stakeholders and many more, the event epitomized a united front in preserving Gingoog's diverse ecosystems while ushering tourists to it's ridge-to-reef destinations.

With a comprehensive approach, the program aims to protect biodiversity, foster eco-tourism, and fortify resilience against climate change impacts. As speeches echoed the importance of collective action, the Ridge to Reef Program shall become the beacon of hope, inspiring other municipalities to prioritize environmental conservation in their developmental agendas.
