The Office of Mission and Ministry (OMM) coordinates and monitors the formation initiatives of the various formation units in the University. It gives greater impetus to the non-academic (spiritual, psychoemotional, social, physical) formation programs initiated by the Campus Ministries Office, Guidance and Counseling Office, Office of Student Affairs, University Athletics Office, and Alumni Affai
rs Office. With its mandate to oversee the whole spectrum of formation initiatives on campus, OMM also coordinates with other units/departments from the Research and Social Outreach Cluster (Kristohanong Katilingban sa Pagpakaba – Social Involvement Office, Xavier Center for Culture and the Arts) and the Academic Cluster (Philosophy Dept, Psychology Dept, RS Dept). As a coordinating and monitoring body for all formation initiatives, it hopes to address the formation needs of the students, faculty, staff, and administrators of the University, including the parents and alumni, for them to become better persons, better workers, and better citizens. For students who wish to nurture their personal and spiritual life, the XU-United Religious Organizations, through the Campus Ministries Office, provides opportunities for engagement in apostolic activities. Regular Ignatian Leadership Workshops are given to guide students to become effective leaders in the parish and the community. The Guidance and Counseling Office (GCO) helps students achieve full personal growth and development. It opens its doors to students who have varying concerns in their academic, career or personal lives through individual and group sessions, and assessment tools. The GCO also carries out an Enrichment Program centering on the students’ personal growth, relationships, life and career directions, and a Placement Program to help graduating students find suitable jobs. Xavier University offers various opportunities to involve students in organizations and to practice leadership. The Student Activities and Leadership Development (SACDEV) under the Office of Student Affairs initiates programs that sharpen students’ leadership potentials. Two of its Student Leadership Development Programs are the Ateneo School for Upcoming Leaders, which grooms students for leadership positions in student organizations, and Change Leadership Program, which empowers student leaders to create valuable and positive change in their respective communities. The Central Student Government (CSG) provides potential leaders a firsthand experience of governance. The Directorate, composed of the college councils and extra-curricular organizations formulates student-related policies and implements programs that address campus issues, facilitate faculty-student interaction, and promote student awareness. Each college council is supplemented with various co-curricular organizations, thus complementing further the students’ academic formation. The Council of Extra-Curricular Organizations governs a wide variety of clubs for students to choose from, ranging from the arts such as theater, music or visual arts, to those of the more physical kind such as athletic, physical contact sports, or mountaineering clubs. Students are encouraged to promote their activities and express their views, advocacies and stance on issues through student publications. The official student publication of the University is “The Crusader,” which has four issues a year: two magazines, a special campus election issue, and a literary folio. The Crusader has received several awards for its features on relevant national, local and campus issues. SACDEV closely monitors the activities of student organizations and provides guidance to student leaders for the overall improvement of their organizations. At the end of each school year, awards and recognition are given to outstanding student leaders and organizations.
