The Chaqchan Mosque (Urdu: مسجد چقچن) (Balti: ཀམའཅཀམའན)meaning “The Miraculous Mosque”[1]) is a mosque in the city of Khaplu, in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern Pakistan. Dating from 1370, the mosque is one of the oldest in the region, and dates from the time when the area's populace converted en masse from Buddhism to Islam.[2][3] The mosque shares similar architecture as those built in the Kashmir Valley.[4] It is a perfect blend of Tibetan, Mughal and Persian style of architecture.[5]

Skardu serves as the capital of Skardu District and the Baltistan Division. Skardu is situated at an elevation of nearly 2,500 metres (8,202 feet) in the Skardu Valley, at the confluence of the Indus and Shigar Rivers.[2] The city is an important gateway to the eight-thousanders of the nearby Karakoram mountain range. Banbhore, Bambhore, Bhanbhore or Bhambhore (Sindhi: ڀنڀور; Urdu: بھنبھور) is a city dating to the 1st century BCE located in modern-day Sindh, Pakistan.[1][2] The city ruins lie on the N-5 National Highway, east of Karachi. It dates back to the Scytho-Parthian era[citation needed] and was later controlled by Muslims from the 8th to the 13th century, after which it was abandoned. Remains of one of the earliest known mosques in the region dating back to 727 AD are still preserved in the city.[3][4][5] In 2004, Department of Archaeology and Museums Pakistan submitted the site for UNESCO World Heritage Sites.[1]
