Borith Lake, a small, placid, saline lake, is a place full of surprises.
Sitting between two mighty glaciers, Gulkhin and Passu, Borith is an important migratory bird site.
Did you know around 25 years ago, WWF-Pakistan lobbied to ensure a permanent hunting ban in the area? The outcome is an influx of different species over the years.
Awareness-raising and educational pursuits have proven to be quite successful in reducing local hunting as communities have also started establishing private bird refuges.
Today this lake is a perfect example of what a healthy ecosystem should look like.
Different migratory birds fly thousands of kilometres to find the most ideal ecological conditions and habitats for feeding, breeding, and raising their young. When the conditions become unfavorable, migratory birds fly to regions better suited.
