Pakistan Railways on Tuesday decided to include the private sector to enhance service and improve profits, the private sector would build modern washrooms at 20 railway stations, ARY News reported.

Railway and Aviation Minister Khwaja Saad Rafique held multiple sessions of Pakistan Railways on August 16, 2022. A decision to cooperate with the private sector to enhance profits and improve services was made in the meetings held under Railways Minister.

Railway sources say that the Private sector would build modern washrooms on 20 railway stations across the country. Passenger travel would be made easier to improve the service quality, they added.

They added that the decision to reinstate the Railway Estate Development and Marketing Company (Redemco). Officers will be appointed to serve as CEO and Secretary Redemco.

The Board of Directors of Shell Pakistan Limited (SPL) announced the Company’s half year results today according to which company posted a profit after tax of PKR 7,469 million, up by 3.5x YoY compared to the profit of PKR 2,153 million made in the same period last year.

The encouraging turnaround is mainly driven by improved business performance focusing on strategic priorities such as differentiated fuels and lubricants, the positive change in pricing formula to pricing agency S&P Global Platts’ indexes by the government, and safe and efficient fuel operations.

During this period, the Mobility business launched 13 new retail sites which will help deliver increased volume. Shell V-Power remains the market leader in the premium fuels category. Through successful dialogue with the government, we will see expansion of our network in Punjab, that will help us grow.

Furthermore, the Company authored a book on Road Safety titled “Once upon a Road” with the aim of driving the behaviours in keeping roads safer in Pakistan. The book will be part of the Care Foundation school curriculum of sixth grade across Pakistan.

Pakistan and the United Kingdom on Wednesday inked an agreement for the repatriation of convicted citizens and criminals.

British Home Secretary Priti Patel shared a tweet, saying “I'm proud to have signed a new landmark agreement with our Pakistani friends to return foreign criminals and immigration offenders from the UK to Pakistan.”

The British politician added that the pact shows our in action, as we deliver for the British people”.

While the world is off-track in the fight against hunger and moving further away from the binding goal of ending hunger by 2030, the 2021 Global Hunger Index (GHI) showed that over the years, Pakistan has shown improvement as the country was ranked 92nd out of 116.

GHI is a peer-reviewed report published by the Concern Worldwide of Ireland and Welthungerhilfe (WHH) every year since 2007 to track hunger across the globe.

An event, to launch the chapter regarding Pakistan, was organised at a local hotel on Tuesday and attended by the nutrition section of the Scaling up Nutrition (SUN) Secretariat in the planning ministry.

The sources of data to compile the report every year essentially include the Demographic and Health Surveys of Pakistan (DHSP) and nutrition-related surveys in the country, carried out by or led by the government.

It is worth mentioning that developed countries are not included in the survey so the report is based on the situation of developing and under-developed countries. This year, data of only 116 countries was available. As per the report, the country considered to have a reduced ratio of hunger is close to zero and ones close to 100 are considered to have a higher hunger ratio.

This year, Pakistan with a score of 24.7 is ranked 92 out of 116 countries with sufficient data available. India has been ranked at 101 but other countries of the region showed better ranking as compared to Pakistan. Sri Lanka was ranked 65th whereas Nepal and Bangladesh were ranked 76th.
