Their journey began with their arrival in Islamabad, where they settled into their accommodation to rest and recover from their previous travels.

Day 1: Sep 5, 2023 - Arrival in Islamabad
During the day, they explored Islamabad's cultural and architectural gems, including the iconic Faisal Mosque and the Pakistan Monument, both representing the country's rich heritage and modernity. The day concluded with a comfortable overnight stay in Islamabad.

Day 2: Sep 6, 2023 - Islamabad to Raikot via Bisham on the Karakoram
The following day, Jonea and Joana continued their adventure as they departed from Islamabad in the morning, heading towards Raikot via Bisham on the Karakoram Highway. This scenic route offered breathtaking views of the rugged terrain, mighty rivers, and awe-inspiring landscapes along the Karakoram Highway. The day began with a visit to the Rakaposhi viewpoint, revealing awe-inspiring views of the majestic Rakaposhi mountain. Later, there was a brief stop in Gilgit for respite, allowing Sarah to experience the town's warm hospitality. The drive continued to the breathtaking Babusar Pass, where landscapes shifted dramatically. Finally, the day concluded at the tranquil Lulusar Lake, nestled amidst lush greenery and snow-capped peaks. Day 8 offered glimpses of Pakistan's diverse beauty as Sarah approached the captivating Naran Valley.

Day 6: August 15
Sarah's adventure on Day 6 took her to some of the most captivating spots in the Hunza Valley. She started by visiting the Eagle's Nest viewpoint, offering stunning panoramic views of the Hunza Valley. Next, she enjoyed a serene boat ride on the turquoise waters of Attabad Lake, surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty. Sarah also explored Ghulkin village, sharing a heartfelt lunch with a local family, and celebrated her birthday with another warm local family. The day concluded with a visit to the iconic Hussaini suspension bridge, providing thrilling views of the picturesque surroundings.

Day 7: August 16
On Day 7, Sarah's journey continued with a visit to Passu, where she marveled at the majestic Passu Cones, a geological wonder. The day's highlight was reaching the breathtaking Khunjerab Pass, near the Chinese border, marking the pinnacle of her adventure through Pakistan. These two days were filled with cultural immersion, natural beauty, and unforgettable moments that made her journey truly remarkable.

Sarah's adventure continued on Day 3 as we departed from Skardu and embarked on a scenic drive to Gilgit. Along the way, we made a remarkable stop at the historic Karga Buddha, an ancient Buddhist rock carving, offering a glimpse into the region's rich history.

After a day filled with exploration, we settled in for an overnight stay in the charming city of Gilgit.

On Day 4, our journey took us from Gilgit to Karimabad in Hunza. En route, we paused to explore the remains of the ancient Silk Route, a testament to the historic trade routes that once connected civilizations.

Next, we marveled at the majestic Rakaposhi Mountain from the Rakaposhi Viewpoint, capturing the essence of the Karakoram Range's grandeur.

Our adventure culminated with a visit to the impressive Baltit Fort, a symbol of the rich heritage of the Hunza Valley.

Karimabad is a paradise on earth. This capital city of the Hunza Valley stands at 2,435 meters above sea level and is one of the best places to take a break after all the hikes you did in Fairy Meadows and Rakaposhi.

With its laid-back vibe, fabulous cafes, and beautiful places to explore, all surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, you are sure to have a great time in Karimabad.

Here are 5 awesome things you can do in Karimabad.

1. Climb Up The Baltit Fort.
This fairy-tale-like fort, built in the 8th Century BC on top of a hill overlooking Karimabad, is the most prominent landmark in the Hunza Valley. The moment I gazed upon the fort, I knew this was Shangri-La. Its majestic location, surrounded by snowy mountains, makes this fort one of the most photogenic spots in Pakistan.

2. Visit The Altit Fort And Village
Another fort worth a visit, though less maintained, lies at the bottom of the valley. Follow the Sultan Abad road across the river and down the Ahmedabad road before you arrive at the fort. Despite ongoing renovations there is plenty to explore.

3. Hike To The Ultar Base Camp
If you haven't had enough hiking in Pakistan, Karimabad offers a beautiful day hike. The trail starts near the Baltit fort, and it will take you up to Ultar Base Camp, where you can see the glacier and the Ultar peaks up close. You move along the irrigation channel as the trail climbs steeply up a narrow gorge, offering continued adventure.

4. Visit Ganish Village
Ganish Village is the first settlement of the Hunza Valley, dating back a thousand years. The people came from different areas, and as the settlement grew, they expanded outward and into different areas around the Valley. Explore several old mosques, one of which is 400 years old, as well as the Shikari watchtower. If you are a history buff like I am, visiting Ganish Village is a no-brainer.

5. Take A Break At Cafe De Hunza
Last, but not least, take a break at Cafe de Hunza and have a nice cup of joe with their famous walnut cakes. They serve Western-style coffees and cakes, so if you are indeed in need of a proper coffee fix, especially if you have been traveling in Pakistan for a while, come by Cafe de Hunza and indulge yourself in their selections of coffee and cakes.
