"سرشت" میں وفا نہیں
تو سو "جمال" _مسترد

ادب نہیں، تو سنگ و خشت
ہیں تمام _ " ڈگریاں"
جو "حُسن خلق" ہی نہیں
تو سب کمال _ مسترد

عبث ہیں وہ _ "ریاضتیں"
جو "یار" _ نہ منا سکیں
وہ ڈھول, تھاپ, بانسری
وہ ہر "دھمال" _مسترد

کتاب عشق میں یہی
لکھا ہوا تھا _" جا بجا "
" بجز " _ خیال یار _کے
ہر اک خیال _مسترد

کہو، سنو، ملو، _ مگر
بڑی ہی" احتیا ط" سے
مٹھاس بھی تو" زہر" ہے
جو " اعتدال" _مسترد

وہ شخص آفتاب ہے
میں اک چراغ _" کج ادا"
سو اس حسین کی بزم میں
میری" مجال"_ مسترد

تو کیا کوئی" گلاب" ہے؟
حَسین میرے یار _سا ؟
وہ" لا جواب" شخص ہے
سو یہ سوال _ مسترد

میں معترف تو ہوں _تیرا
مگر _" اے چاند " _معذرت
کہ ذکر" حُسن یار"_ میں
تیری " مثال " _مسترد

حساب _عمر دیکھ لو
کہ پھر _" پل صراط" پر
یہ" نفس" کے اگر _ مگر
" فریب چال" _مسترد

دعا میں _" التجا نہیں
تو عرض حال _ مسترد
سرشت میں وفا _نہیں،
تو "سو جمال" _مسترد
