The largest cemetery in the world is **Wadi al-Salam** (Valley of Peace) in **Najaf, Iraq**. This vast cemetery covers over **1,485.5 hectares (3,700 acres)** and holds more than **5 million** graves, with the number continuing to grow each year.

Wadi al-Salam is considered a sacred site for Shia Muslims, as it is located near the shrine of **Imam Ali (A.S)**, the first Imam of Shia Islam and a cousin of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Many Shia Muslims from around the world wish to be buried there due to its religious significance. The cemetery has been in continuous use for over **1,400 years**.
