Air passenger demand continued its strong recovery in October. Globally, traffic is now at 9️⃣ 8️⃣ . 2️⃣ % of pre-COVID levels.

Total ✈️ traffic in October 2023 (measured in RPKs) rose 31.2% compared to October 2022.

Update !!
A monumental day for GIlgit Baltistan. First international flight will land in GIlgit-Baltistan on the 14th of August this year. This is a thrilling development and would result in further prosperity and development of tourism sector as well as international collaborations in the region. The reason why this region had not seen any international flight up till now was because of unavailable of refuelling facility in the region. Now, however, the refuelling facility is ready to serve the international flights and shall be inaugurated on the 11th of August. This monumental breakthrough would prove to be a turning point for development and prosperity of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The latest IATA air connectivity analysis shows that in Q2 of 2023 the majority of countries across the 🌍 have reached or exceeded their pre-pandemic levels of connectivity.
A comparison of the connectivity levels observed in Q2 2️⃣ 0️⃣ 1️⃣ 9️⃣ and Q2 2️⃣ 0️⃣ 2️⃣ 3️⃣ shows how close to full recovery the global aviation industry has come.

Did you know that in both 2019 and 2022 approximately 85% of all passenger journeys commenced and finished within the same region?

In both years, Asia Pacific was the dominant origin market and in 2019 approximately 40% of all passengers began their journey in this region.

And despite North America dominating traffic recovery in terms of revenue passenger kilometers (RPKs), more passenger journeys were commenced in Europe than in North America both in 2019 and 2022.

Going forward, the expected continued recovery in traffic in the Asia-Pacific region will likely shift the traffic flows even closer to the patterns which were observed in 2019.

Ethiopian Airlines resumes flights to Karachi after 19 years
The largest network operating carrier in Africa, Ethiopian Airlines has started direct flights to Karachi, Pakistan today.
The first flight of Ethiopian Airlines arrived in Karachi. The airline first served Karachi from July 1966 to December 1971. The airline resumed the service later in June 1993 but terminated the service in July 2004. The airline will be operating 4 flights a week. The flights will be every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. The flights will arrive early in the morning at 05:05 and depart at 08:55 in the morning. The airline has a widebody fleet of 19 Airbus A350s, 19 Boeing 777s, and 27 Boeing 787s that could be deployed on these flights. Karachi will be Ethiopian’s 37th destination of Ethiopian Airlines in Asia. Currently, Ethiopian is serving more than 145 domestic and international passenger and cargo destinations.

During the , bookings to Qatar 🇶🇦 skyrocketed by 77% in November 2022 (compared to October) and by more than 87% compared to November 2019.

Once Argentina 🇦🇷 qualified for the final against France 🇫🇷 , bookings to Qatar almost doubled.

The majority of tickets for flights before the final were purchased two days before, indicating the Argentinian fans reacted quickly to travel to to see the final match (Note: our data excludes charter flights, which in fact were quite significant in Argentina, increasing the total number of visitors).

Air transport is vital for international sports events, allowing fans to travel and support their teams. After two and half years of travel restrictions, people are eager to travel again despite the challenging circumstances that the world is facing at present.
