Pakistan Makes a Significant Improvement on International Travel and Tourism Development Index
Pakistan has made a big jump on International Travel and Tourism Development Index by moving up six places as per the latest report released by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The 2021 edition of the Travel and Tourism Development Index includes 117 countries. The index ranks the countries based on the set of factors and policies that enable the sustainable and resilient development of the travel and tourism industry of each country.

Aftab ur Rehman Rana, Managing Director of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation informed that as per the latest edition of the international travel and tourism competitive index titled “Rebuilding for a Sustainable and Resilient Future,” Pakistan has been ranked 83rd, which is up from 89th place in the index’s previous edition of 2019. “Six points increase in the raking of Pakistan on global travel and tourism index is quite a significant progress and now Pakistan is among the countries in the Asia Pacific Region that have improved its ranking the most since 2019”, said Aftab Rana. He informed that during the last two years Federal and Provincial Governments have made good progress in improving the performance of tourism sector in Pakistan by taking various steps to overall improve the condition of tourism services infrastructure, business environment, safety and security, health and hygiene, ICT readiness, and socio economic resilience and conditions. He further said that although we have made good progress but still we need to do a lot to further enhance the performance of tourism sector in Pakistan in coming year which has huge potential to play a key role in the overall socio-economic development of Pakistan. Among the South Asian economies, Pakistan is now 3rd best with biggest improvement in TTDI score since 2019. In the Asia-Pacific region, Pakistan along with Vietnam and Indonesia have been designated as the best-performing nations. Vietnam has jumped to the 60th spot, which is up from the 52nd place. Indonesia has been ranked at the 32nd position, up from the 44th spot.

Overall, Japan has occupied the top spot on the latest edition of the index. Japan is followed by the USA, Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Singapore and Italy which have been ranked top 10 respectively.

Recently, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi ordered the administration to open the Leepa Valley link road as early as possible,and also advised to speed up the rehabilitation operation in this snow-clad mountainous part of the state.

While briefing about the current weather conditions in AJK, the prime minister further ordered the authorities that other connecting highways should also be maintained and tourist spots should be kept open.

Commissioner Muzaffarabad Division Masoodur Rehman explained the PM about the current activities of AJK police, Rescue 1122 and the administration in the ongoing rescue operation in Murree after the recent heavy rains and snowfall.

Secretary Tourism Gilgit-Baltistan, Raja Rasheed Ali said domestic tourism was increasing in the country as millions of local visitors were visiting scenic northern areas.

He made these remarks while taking part in panel discussion organised by World Wildlife Fund (WWF)-Pakistan, aiming to highlight the biodiversity of the Hindu-Kush, Karakoram and Himalayan region and the impacts of climate change and anthropogenic activities.

He said Gilgit-Baltistan government was focusing on improving the livelihoods of the people, making the land cultivable and were using technology to streamline tourism by dividing and diversifying the concentration of tourists in certain areas.

He said more than 1.5 million domestic tourists had visited Gilgit-Baltistan during the summer season, which was 30 percent higher than the previous year’s figures.

Syed Tayyab expressed the hope that more tourists would visit till the end of this year to northern areas.

The experts stressed on public engagement in developing policies around sustainable tourism, enhancing the capacity of local communities, sustainable mountain architecture, and the need for trans-boundary collaboration for sustainable tourism.

SOP for tourist:
1- Every tourist will use Mask, Gloves and Hand sanitizers.
2- Maximum stay at destination will be one week.
3- Fill of performa available at entry points;

c. Phone
d. Address
e.Travel history

4- Tour guide with each group who will ensure the safety of tourists.
5- Disinfection of vehicle by their own disinfectant at the entry point.
6- Under taking to follow SOPs by service provider.
