A Muslim Family Mission Statement
1. Prayer on time.
2. Family comes first.
3. “Please” and “thank you” are two must words.
4. No hitting, cursing, insulting or foul-mouthed words.
5. Smartphones used for a specified period.
6. Lower voice: yelling, shouting or screaming is unacceptable.
7. Listen without interrupting.
8. Pick what you dropped, and shut what you opened - door, window, light, fridge etc.
9. Your room is your responsibility – cleaning, tidying- ventilating.
10. Stand up for parents and kiss their heads.
(In some cultures it might be kissing the hand; the important thing is for the child to show respect and gratitude).
11. Express your feelings calmly and politely.
12. Say “Salam” when leaving or entering the house.
13. Read daily the Quran daily. (Amount varies).
14. No staying up after 8:30 PM. (varies depending on time-zone & child’s age: 3-6 years old need about 11-13 hours of sleep, 7-12 years need 10-11 hours, and teenagers need 9+ hours.
15. No one enters the room of another without first knocking and asking for permission to enter.
16. Everyone is responsible for taking care of the house and its stuff.
17. Cleanliness is a must: cleanliness of body, cloths, teeth-brushing, nail-cutting etc.
18. Good manners with family members: the young respects the elder, and the elder has on mercy the young.
19. Everyone helps himself; no sibling rivalry, bossing or acting like parents.
