Musa Ali, a 48-year-old resident of Gulshan-Kabir village near Siachen Glacier in the Ghanche district of Gilgit-Baltistan, embarked on a unique journey from his village to Islamabad on horseback. His journey began on November 13, and he is scheduled to reach the federal capital on International Mountain Day, which falls on December 11.

Musa Ali, a retired armyman and a former polo player, chose this challenging expedition to cover the 900km distance from Siachen to Islamabad, traveling through the Juglot-Skardu Road and Karakoram Highway. His primary mission is twofold: to raise awareness about the untapped potential of adventure tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan and to draw attention to the pressing issue of climate change.

He believes that Gilgit-Baltistan holds great promise for adventure tourism, attracting both national and international tourists, including climbers who come to explore its beautiful landscapes and challenging peaks. However, Musa Ali is concerned about the unplanned and unsustainable tourism practices that have started to threaten the region’s fragile environment.

On the occasion of International Mountain Day, Musa Ali aims to convey a powerful message to the world. He wants to highlight that while Gilgit-Baltistan offers incredible opportunities for adventure tourism, it is also vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change. His mission is not only to promote tourism but also to emphasize the importance of protecting the local environment. By undertaking this remarkable journey, Musa Ali hopes to inspire responsible tourism practices and raise awareness about the need to safeguard this precious region from the negative effects of climate change.

Pakistan has four distinct seasons:

Winter (November to February): Winter is the coldest season in Pakistan. The average temperature ranges from 10 to 20 degrees Celsius. The northern areas of Pakistan, such as Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, receive heavy snowfall during this season.
Spring (March to May): Spring is a beautiful season in Pakistan. The weather is warm and sunny, and the flowers start to bloom. This is a popular time for tourists to visit Pakistan.
Summer (June to September): Summer is the hottest season in Pakistan. The average temperature ranges from 30 to 40 degrees Celsius. The humidity is also high, which can make the weather feel even hotter.
Monsoon (October to November): Monsoon is the wettest season in Pakistan. The country receives most of its annual rainfall during this season. The monsoon rains can cause flooding and landslides, especially in the northern areas of Pakistan.
The exact dates of the seasons can vary from year to year, depending on the weather patterns. Saltoro Summits Pakistan. www.saltorosummits.com

The Balti ethnic community is predominantly found in the northern Pakistani region of Baltistan. Annually observed on November 20th, Balti Culture Day honours their diverse and culturally significant heritage.

The historical connections between Balti and Tibet have resulted in a profound influence of Tibetan and Central Asian customs on Balti culture. Their culture places a significant emphasis on family and communal values, and the people of Baltistan are renowned for their warm hospitality.

The Balti language, a Tibetic dialect, is among the most notable characteristics of Balti culture. Additionally, art, dance, and traditional music are integral parts of their culture; the latter frequently features vivid hues and intricate patterns.

Popular elements of Balti cuisine include “thukpa” (noodle soup) and “momos” (dumplings), among others. Notwithstanding this, the area is renowned for its breathtaking natural scenery, which features tranquil lakes such as Sheosar Lake and the renowned Karakoram Range.

Promoting awareness and admiration for the distinctive heritage of the Balti people, Balti Culture Day functions as a forum to exhibit and commemorate these cultural components.

Shehroze Kashif accomplished a tremendous achievement this morning, October 6, 2023, at 3:15 am PST, by successfully reaching the top of Cho Oyu, which is located in Tibet, China, at 8,188 metres. Being the sixth tallest mountain on Earth, Cho Oyu, makes this achievement very noteworthy. Shehroze Kashif currently holds the record for being the youngest mountaineer in the world, having scaled 13 of the 14 summits that are higher than 8,000 metres, thanks to this accomplishment. His next task is to climb Shishapangma, which is 8,027 metres high. If he succeeds, he would have ascended all 14 of these massive 8,000-meter mountains at the amazing age of 21. We send him our sincere congrats on this amazing adventure!

At Skardu Intel Airport, Pakistan going to open a state-of-the-art cargo setup, which represents a major advancement in the nation's cargo handling capacities. The purpose of this development is to improve trade and transportation within the area.
Historically well-known for its passenger operations—particularly for travellers taking in the Karakoram and Himalayan scenery—Skardu Intel Airport is currently expanding its scope to assume a pivotal role in Pakistan's freight network.

The recently constructed cargo facilities are equipped with cutting edge storage options, sophisticated handling machinery, and strong security protocols to guarantee the safe and effective transportation of cargo. By strengthening Pakistan's regional and global commerce presence, this investment is in line with the country's larger objective to upgrade its logistical infrastructure.

Skardu's advantageous location makes it simpler to reach China through the Karakoram Highway, which might increase trade volumes between the two countries.
By creating new job opportunities and supporting regional enterprises, the cargo system is expected to boost economic growth in the Gilgit-Baltistan region.
Officials pledge that the growth of cargo operations won't interfere with the airport's ability to promote travel and keep easy access to the area's stunning scenery.

This growth is consistent with Pakistan's overarching plan to strengthen its position in the area and improve ties with Central Asia.

The cargo setup at Skardu Intel Airport is expected to play a pivotal role in promoting trade and commerce, bolstering Pakistan's economic progress, and fortifying ties with neighbouring countries when it gets fully operational.

Skardu International Airport, Pakistan

It was a significant day for Gilgit Baltistan. This year's first foreign flight will touch down in Gilgit-Baltistan on August 14,2023.
This is an exciting development that will lead to increased wealth and growth in the tourism industry as well as cross-border cooperation in the area. Because there were no refuelling facilities in the area, there had not yet been any international flights in this area. However, owing to the efforts of Mr. Khakan Murtaza, DG Civil Aviation Authority, Mr. Syed Muhammad Taha, MD & CEO PSO, and the Federal Government, the refuelling station is now prepared to serve international aircraft and will be officially opened on August 11th 2023. We are grateful to them all for this enormous accomplishment, which will undoubtedly mark a turning point in Gilgit-Baltistan's growth and prosperity.

In the Hussainabad valley, close to Skardu city in Gilgit Baltistan, there is a spectacular rock structure called Marsur Rock, sometimes known as the Hussainabad Slab. The renowned Trolltunga Rock in Norway and the Marsur Rock are strikingly similar.

Hussainabad resident Mr. Arif Hussain and his crew investigated this trekking location in December 2018. Since then, it has become more well-known as a travel destination and draws tourists from all over the world.

It is advised to have a local guide who is skilled in the Marsur Rock trip if you intend to explore this spectacular rock formation. The terrain is difficult, making independent travel by tourists from outside the area impractical.

In March and April, the view of Baltistan and Hunza valley is incredible, though it remains spectacular throughout the year. The best time of year to visit Hunza and Baltistan is April to October. From spring to autumn the valley is more attractive, all three fabulous seasons have their own unique charm, which cannot be described in words but can only be felt. In the Spring season, the field and orchards come alive with blossoms of different natural colors in the villages.
