While Eric Shipton completed the route in 1937, exactly 50 years after Francis Younghusband, it appears to have been used for centuries by the Hunzakuts and the Baltis. For the well-acclimatised and experienced trekker, the Hispar Glacier undoubtedly provides the most direct and spectacular entry into the region. Some things are beautiful in their simplicity; others in their intricacy.

In the north of Pakistan lies an absolutely stunning district; Hunza Nagar, previously known as Brushal, this place is a lakeside paradise. Hunza and Nagar used to be separate princely states parted by the River Hunza which marked the border between the two states.
The small states of Hunza and Nagar were notorious for looting trader caravans that would come from China.
The British wanted to expand their trade to Russia from here, but the states wouldn’t allow them to. Thus in 1891, Nagar was invaded by the British Army led by Colonel Durand. British surrounded the Nagar’s Nalt Fort, and eventually seized it six months later.
Soon power was transferred from the British to the Maharaja of Kashmir, but owing to the long distance, locals continued to live freely. Dongs, the capital of Nagar, was in Nagar Khas where royal courts and palaces of marble still exist. It remained the capital till the last royal of Maghlot Dynasty, Mir Shaukat Ali Khan, was in power.
Hooper is the most beautiful place in Nagar, a land of snow-clad mountains, but the sheer power of glaciers to carve out new landscapes makes them intricately gorgeous too. In Gulmit valley lies Rakaposhi Mountain whereas the Diran Peak stands tall in Minapin.
Heading towards Hunza through the Karakoram Highway.
Luscious green grassland with Golden Peak in the backdrop, we see happy faces peering out, local children playing, women stretching their backs into the sunshine amid work, and animals grazing fields — Nagar is known for its serene village life.
As soon as one leaves Hunza and crosses the river bridge after Ganesh village, a road turning right leads to Hooper. Before Hooper is Nagar Khas, which used to be the centre of Nagar. The area is flecked with fruit trees including cherries, apples, and apricots.
Nagar Khas is full of hard-working, soft-spoken people with small homes and shops.

I'm with my foreigner guests at Wagah/Wagah Border Lahore. The ceremony begins an hour before sunset with the border guards dressed in their black uniforms performing the drill in front of a roaring crowd, executing impressive high-kicks.

Then, the guards on each side of the border open the gate and the flags of the two countries are lowered and folded simultaneously. This is followed by a handshake between the soldiers and a beating retreat. The large iron gates are then closed, signifying the end of the ceremony.

Fairy Meadows is like the bouquet of flowers set before the towering killer mountain, Nanga Parbat. The mountain sets a backdrop for the Fairy Meadows, making it an appealing and exciting destination for tourists. Fairy Meadows are where the legends of Nanga Parbat are kept alive, told by generations of villagers who had the chance of witnessing the legions of climbers who never descended its icy walls.

Towards the northern side, it welcomes us with the Raikot glacier, strewn with dark echoing crevasses, plagued by constant avalanches, and guarded by 15 meters of ice spears. One in five people who attempted to climb the Nanga Parbat never descend. Even the famous Reinhold Messner, the first mountaineer to climb the entire world’s 14 peaks had to be nursed back to life after losing his brother as well as seven of his toes on the mountain.
Nanga Parbat is the ninth tallest mountain in the world, standing at 8,126 meters (26,657 feet), and is the second tallest mountain in Pakistan, after K2 with 8611 meters. It is also the first mountain in the great Himalaya range, which stretches up to 2,400 kilometres to the east, running through six nations and ending in Tibet.
The male mountain dwellers have long black beards, wear topis (hats), long kurtas (shirts) and a strong smell of to***co surrounds them. Their eyes seem intent, maybe because they are so used to tracking storms on the mountain. Women are seldom seen, mostly on a distant ridge in their bright flowing sashes, tending to a field or herding goats with long shaggy hair, twisted horns and enchanting golden eyes, resembling those of the Greek God, Pan.
The meadows change with the seasons. The birch trees streak the mountains with a bright yellow in autumn, while winter is bare, bone white and still. Spring brings forth the river’s roar, the crisp cracks of avalanches and the bloom of purple, yellow and white wildflowers.

The Samadhi of Ranjit Singh is a 19th-century building in Lahore, that houses the funerary urns of the Sikh Maharaja Ranjit Singh. It is located adjacent the Lahore Fort and Badshahi Mosque, as well the Gurdwara Dera Sahib which marks the spot where the 5th guru of Sikhism, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, drowned into River Ravi & vanished their dead body like 1st Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
