Iraqi national donate a part of her liver to her one-and-half-year-old child
Ahead of , a private hospital ( ) observed the day in a unique way — by honouring a mother from Iraq who gave a new lease of life to her one-and-half-year-old daughter by donating a part of her liver.

“Besides Fatima’s age, there was an issue with her heart too. One of the arteries that supply blood to the lungs from the heart was not fully developed and we were worried that it might just get difficult for her to come out of ventilator support soon after the surgery. However, the surgery was successful and she came out of ventilation without any complications.”

Dr. Chaudhary added, “We encountered another challenge during the transplant. Due to Fatima’s age and weight, her body was unable to support the left lobe of her mother Hannah’s liver. So we had to reduce it as per Fatima’s body requirement. Not only did we dissected the liver, we also had to reduce its thickness during the donor surgery before the transplant.”

The hospital said Ms. Hannah and Fatima are recovering fast and fit to go back to Iraq.
