"OLD FIRE ENGINES SAVED ( Taken from 2011 Frontier Facets, STC)
Almost a century old, two neglected British-era vintage fire engines have been saved. The government owned fire engines built by Merryweather London (Models 1919-21) were parked in an old fire brigade shed at Gor Khuttree (Gor Khatri), Peshawar Pakistan for the last almost four decades after going out of service. The rare antiquities were under severe threat from natural elements due to neglect as they were gathering dust and were on the brink of being reduced to metal junk.
Tourism Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Secretary & MD Azam Khan) allocated a fund of Rs. two million while hiring of technical staff for refurbishment was arranged by Maureen Lines's Frontier Heritage Trust (FHT). Mohsin Ikram and Romano Karim Yusuf of the Vintage and Classic Car Club of Pakistan (VCCCP) who were introduced by Albert Godin supervised the restoration. Former Chief Secretary KP Sahibzada Riaz Noor was helpful in arranging a space in the Rural Academy in University Town for renovation of the engines. Sarhad Conservation Network (SCN) had raised the issue of their preservation initially. Tourism Department has decided to dedicate a plaque to be installed in future at Gor Khuttree to remember all the individuals and organisations that helped revive the fire engines to their former glory."

Skardu and Gilgit saw massive flight operations, at par with major cities of Pakistan, when nearly 16 PIA flights operated to and from both the cities.

The airport saw hustle bustle with flights continuously arriving and departing at the same time. In a video released by official spokesperson of PIA depicted flights arriving while a flight departing in the background making northern areas skies busy.

PIA operated eight flights each to Gilgit and Islamabad airports in a day, highest number of flights ever operated in a day in country's history. Official Spokesperson of PIA called the expansion in operations in line with the vision of Prime Minister of Pakistan to promote tourism in Pakistan.

He said that to fulfill the vision and in the greater national interest, PIA is making all out efforts to provide convenient travel services to the people of the region and to promote domestic tourism in Pakistan.
