Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam inaugurated an environment friendly e-taxi for northern areas of the country.

Addressing the launching ceremony of the first ever electric vehicles being introduced as taxis in the hilly terrain of northern areas through a joint venture between Sapphire Group and Faisal Movers, he said: “I congratulate Sapphire Group and Faisal Movers for their joint initiative as they are embracing the future in the field of advanced mobility and sustainable growth.”

The joint venture aimed to reduce the country’s carbon footprint through implementation of a strong de-carbonisation action plan that would help preserve the natural environment of northern areas, especially Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

He said GB had massive potential for tourism but was equally vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

“We have the responsibility to protect its environment as fuel based vehicular emissions are detrimental for the local environment and ecology. GB is generating a major chunk of our tourism, so we cannot pollute it,” he added.

He said the e-taxi would start from the federal capital to Murree and Nathiagali whereas its powerful engine and battery capacity could also let the vehicle venture into hilly areas.

Japan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Matsuda Kuninori said that Tokyo had eased travel restrictions to Pakistan and he personally considered Pakistan a safe country. He said he would encourage Japanese people to visit this country for tourism and exploring business opportunities.

He said Pakistan has rich potential in the tourism sector and it can easily become the hub of foreign tourists keeping in view its ancient history, Gandhara civilization and natural landscape.

He added: “After visiting this place, I would recommend this important Buddhist site in Shah Allah Ditta to the Japanese people to visit as this is the area from where Buddhist civilisation reached Japan. The foundation of Japan-Pakistan friendship was in fact laid down centuries ago,” the ambassador said. Moving up the mountain from the caves, the Ambassador also visited the historic Alexander’s well.

He was amazed at seeing this drinking water facility at the top of the Margalla hills established in ancient times. The place is believed to have been used as a route from Kabul to the Gandhara city of Taxila by Alexander the Great.

In response to rising demand from domestic tourists looking to visit gorgeous Gilgit Baltistan (GB) during the current tourism season, private airlines are planning to provide direct flights to Skardu shortly.

The demand for air travel has recently increased dramatically since many people from all over the country desire to view the region’s lush green valleys, meadows, flowing waterfalls, and snow-capped mountains.

The authorities are providing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to private airlines to meet the growing demand for air travel and boost tourism in the region. Raja Nasir Ali Khan, the Minister for Tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan, confirmed the news, saying, “Air Blue is set to commence flights for Skardu from mid-August.”

He told the press that North Air has recently received NOC to run its operations. “If any private airline wants to come to GB, we will provide complete support,” he added, adding that the PIA had already been flying multiple flights to Skardu every week from other towns throughout Pakistan.

He noted that Faisalabad, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Sialkot were among the places from which the PIA operated flights to Skardu. Every week, three flights from Lahore and Karachi, two each from Faisalabad and Sialkot, one from Multan, and one from Islamabad, were conducted based on demand.

The cities besieged and taken by Alexander the Great are referred to as ‘City of Alexander.’ New finds are expected to enhance tourism in northwest Pakistan. Authorities in northwestern Pakistan are anticipating a rise in tourism following the discovery of new structures in the ancient city of Bazira, which was seized by Alexander the Great millennia ago.

The Italian Archaeological Mission to Pakistan has been excavating Bazira in Barikot, in the centre of the Swat valley, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, since the 1970s. Alexander the Great besieged and captured the city in 327 BCE, and it is now known as the “city of Alexander.”

Since the conquest, a variety of ancient civilizations have controlled Bazira, including the Maurya Empire, the Kushans, the Hindu Shahis, and the Ghaznavids.

As per the report of Samaa TV : A 14-storey high cruise ship has arrived at Gadani, which has been bought by Pakistan and upon seeing the ship in good condition, Pakistani authorities are mulling over to use this cruise ship for tourism purposes.

Celestyal Experience, formerly known as Costa Romantica, is a 1990s vintage ship built for Costa Cruises. The 56,800 gross-ton cruise ship, introduced in 1992, was built by the Italian shipbuilder. A Pakistani company, New Choice Enterprises, bought it for ship breaking but after finding the ship in a “good condition” they have decided to transform it into a hotel or cruise.

According to a report, the cruise ship underwent a significant modernization and overhaul in 2011 as part of a life extension program designed to update the ship. The 14 storey ship has the following features:

1,411 rooms
Seven-star hotel
Shopping mall
Gaming zone
Swimming pool
Three ballrooms

The company says they had sought permission to anchor the cruise ship near Karachi Port Grand but the request was denied due to its massive size. The ship has now been anchored at Gadani Ship Breaking Yard.

Already famed for its civil engineering marvel, the Karakoram Highway (KKH) has now been ranked among the 15 most beautiful roads of the world for its scenic beauty. In its categorisation, Wikicampers, a website providing tourist services in different parts of the world, called the KKH an “ideal setting for the most dizzying road trip.”

“Let’s gain altitude again by taking the second highest asphalt road in the world,” the website said explaining the features of the road.

The KKH connects China to Pakistan while crossing the Karakoram mountain range and running alongside certain peaks over 7,000 metres in height.

The highway is around 1,300KM long which extends from Hasan Abdal to the Khunjrab Pass in Gilgit-Baltistan, where it crosses into China.

In its documentary, BBC had also called the KKH as one of the highest paved roads on earth which was major trade route between Pakistan and China. It also said the road was completely developed, smooth and safe.
