Foolproof guide on travelling to Zakopane.

The most frequent question that I get from messages is about the best way to travel to Zakopane.

Zakopane is easily accessible from Krakow, Poland's second-largest city, by bus or car. The scenic drive takes about two hours.

By Bus:
The most common way to reach Zakopane from Krakow is by bus. Several bus companies operate services between the two cities, and you can easily book tickets online in advance over the counter.
During the weekends it will be hard to reserve a bus ticket. So, I recommend you buy a ticket in advance.

Flix Bus
The best option is to reserve a bus. Excellent customer service, clean and comfortable buses. Also, they have excellent connections, Europe-wide.

By Train:

While there is a train station in Zakopane, train travel to Zakopane from major cities like Krakow can be less frequent and slower compared to buses. However, if you prefer train travel, you can check the schedule of the Polish State Railways (PKP Intercity) for available routes and timings.

By Car:

If you prefer the flexibility of travelling by car, you can rent one at Krakow Airport or in the city centre. The drive to Zakopane is quite scenic, and the roads are well-maintained. Just keep in mind that during the winter months, it's essential to have winter tyres and be prepared for possible snow or icy conditions.

Taxi Services:
In Zakopane, you'll find taxi services available for local transportation. You can easily hail a taxi on the street. Also Make sure the taxi has a meter, or negotiate the fare before starting the ride.
Uber and Bolt are not available in Zakopane. However, if you are going to Zakopane from Krakow you can hire a taxi anywhere in Krakow.

Airport Transfers:
If you're arriving at Krakow Airport and want a hassle-free transfer to Zakopane, you can pre-book airport transfer services. Many companies offer private transfers that will take you directly to your accommodation in Zakopane.

Important information
When booking tickets, pay attention to the departure and arrival points, as some buses or trains may have multiple stops in Zakopane.

A pączek is a deep-fried piece of dough shaped into a flattened ball and filled with confiture or other sweet filling. Pączkiise is usually covered with powdered sugar, icing, glaze, or bits of dried orange zest.

In Poland, pączki are eaten especially on Fat Thursday (Tłusty Czwartek), the last Thursday before Ash Wednesday.
