Though a work of fiction, 'Disdain' firmly roots its narrative in reality, drawing from authentic settings. The chilling account of the horrors at Bergen-Belsen is etched into the very fabric of this tale. This novel skilfully melds elements of science fiction, horror, and historical events, crafting a narrative focused on a malevolent entity. At its heart, it explores the lives of the British Army stationed in 1980s Germany and the courageous individuals who bravely stood up to face the looming danger.

When I reach Krakow, I go straight to the Saski, an elegant old place near the centre with a uniformed doorman and an iron and brass lift and many carpeted corridors along to my room on the top floor. Here, my tiny balcony overlooks a mosaic of lawns and yards, lifeless except for a weeping willow which trails threads of bright new green life down to the sodden ground - Read more -

Kraków has a riveting history with alternating themes of destruction and revival, which could rival the hit TV series, Game of Thrones. The highlight was becoming coming Poland’s capital city in 1038 and the part it played within Poland’s Golden Age. The low points include the sacking of the city by marauding Tatars, losing capital city status to Warsaw, the occupation by N**i Germany and the post-war period of communism that followed - https://polandtravel.agency/

Krzemionki is a complex of banded (striped) flint mines, which were in operation during the Neolithic and Early Bronze Ages (3,900-1,600 BC), and have been preserved in an almost intact state.
The Krzemionki mines are located in the mountain region of Świętokrzyskie. They were dedicated to the extraction and processing of striped flint, which was mainly used for axe-making. Products from the mines have been found as far away as 660km.
The Krzemionki mines were discovered in 1922 by a Polish geologist, Professor Jan Samsonowicz. His discovery was significant, Krzemionki is one of the most comprehensive prehistoric underground flint extraction and processing systems identified to date with underground mining structures, flint workshops and around 4,000 shafts and pits.
The site was designated as a Polish historic monument on 16th October 1994 and inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 6th July 2019. The mines provide invaluable information about life and work in prehistoric settlements and the importance of flint mining for tool production in bygone days - https://polandtravel.agency/krzemionki-prehistoric-striped-flint-mining-region/

The Wooden Tserkvas Of The Carpathian Region were built between the 16th and 19th centuries by communities of Orthodox and Greek Catholic faiths. Sixteen tserkvas (churches) are listed by UNESCO of which eight are located in Poland and eight are located in Ukraine.
The wooden tserkvas were built of horizontal logs and were complex structures constructed using distinct building traditions rooted in Orthodox ecclesiastic design interwoven with elements of local tradition. The wooden tserkvas were built on a tri-partite plan surmounted by open quadrilateral or octagonal domes and cupolas with wooden bell towers on the outside and iconostases and polychrome decorations in the inside. Outside, they had churchyards, gatehouses and graveyards bounded by perimeter walls or fences and gates, often surrounded by trees.
Exceptional carpentry skills were required to construct the wooden tserkvas particularly for the complex corner jointing that was required. The tserkvas were raised on wooden sills placed on stone foundations, with wooden shingles covering roofs and walls - Read more - https://polandtravel.agency/wooden-tserkvas-of-the-carpathian-region/
